    Default 720pt Lord

Is 720pts too much for a lord? I really want to play an army that has an amazing lord that can rip through anything, I thought Chaos would be good at that.

    My lord is:

Khorne Lord - Favour of the Gods, Dispendable Maw, MoK, Chaos Daemonaxe, Bloodthirster (Chaos Dragon mount), Enchanted Shield.

He has 6-8 Strength and 6-10 attacks. He is capable of killing Chariots in a single blow, ripping through ranks and ranks of infantry, even heavy infantry or horses.... he is very durable and tough (he has T5 and his mount has T6). It seems to me that he could kill anything that gets in his way... and no one would dare bait a flyer... Am I over estimating his power or could he be an effective killing machine?

Obviously I'll need to get a lot of Marauders and Marauder Horsemen to balance out the points cost.

One of the problems of having a lord worth anything with that many points... is that all it will take is some well placed super spell or a few lucky rolls to essentially doom your poor buddy there. As for the Mark of Khorne, that gives frenzy right? I'm not sure about this... but I think thats what it is (I've never actually read the codex or seen a Khorne player in the new army style). Having a frenzied lord is going to be a nightmare as he goes running off after the first thing he sees... and the rest of your army is lacking huge amounts of points because your commander has been lured to some corner of the bored by 10 skaven slaves (which is essentially a waste of your lords time... and with like 100 slaves your lord could be there all day).

That being said, there have been more expensive lords, take vampires for example, I've heard you can just keep upgrading them... time and time again until they are like 1000 points or more...
The dragon is the real source of those points, and they are a good unit, so I'd say, the character is an acceptable lord

My advice... try him out, see what happens. If you find that every single game someone just has their powerful magic user blow him up, or that his frenzy gets in the way, change it up and go with something less costly.

I control frenzy.... I simply move my Lord so he isnt facing someone I dont want to charge.

It depends on the size of the game you plan on playing. In a 2000 point game your lord is going to take up more than 1/3 of your army and leave you with only two hero choices remaining. Thats really too large of a portion of your army for a small game.

The other danger is that there is several ways to take out something big like that in one shot (Great Cannons, Lore of Shadows, to name two..) And clever opponents will still be able to bait you with units (Alot of bait units are fast calvary so are plenty mobile to get in your charge arc) or catch you in tar pit units (Zombies come to mind right away)

The main reason I'd warn you away from it though is more of a personal opionion. Warhammer fantasy is supposed to be about troops and movement and the like. I feel it gets away from the spirit of the game when you make a uber unit that no one can beat, that is a huge chunk of your army.

So my advice to you is this.. if you really want to have a hero character on a dragon. Take a different kind of lord so your not frenzied. Give him something to give him or his mount a ward save vs. shooting. Other than that just give him basic non magic gear to keep him as cheap as possible. (He'll still totally wreck most units, and the rest of your army won't be so limited) Oh and don't make him a wizard.

P.S. If its like a 4k point game, go for it.

You havent really got any armour at first look as well. in addition if you move the dragon to try and control the frenzy that means you wont be able to charge anything! This is because if you move it so it cant be led astray then your opponenet can affectivley just ignore this power house and kill all of your troops therefore maki this model a waste of points but if you want to do this by all means it just means that an opponenet will try and hold you for a turn and then just counter charge you so you will lose even with 6-10 attacks and then the dragon you still cant beat stacked up ranks and everything

    I feel exactly the same...

For protection, you might want to look at the Golden Eye of Tzeentch (losing on the Khorne aspect though). If it hasn't changed it's a 3+ inv. VS shooting for rider and mount.

Not for me, if it was there and able to happen I shall accept it and play a game. Only if my oponent was a complete douchebag over it would I be annoyed well and truly.

As for other units, get a few sorcerors to protect your high point character from magic and allow lots of agression from more than one place. Then spend about 600-700 points on marauders. You get a lot for that and you can tailor the units to your desire. Points left over? Work 'em out for yerself! :D

Unfortunately the Golden Eye of Tzeenctch had been nerfed quite a bit, but it is still usefull seeing as all mounts except the Dragon and Manticore count as cavalry now...

It gives you a 4+ Ward now on all magical and non-magical shooting incl Magic Missiles, but it does not count for the mount anymore...

The mark of Tzeentch takes it up to 3+ though...

Its better than the 920 points it costs for me to use Malekith the Witch King on a Black Dragon. (dark elf army)

Try it out in a game and let us know what happens. I think that it would be best in a game of at least 3000pts. That way you can field some good support for him.

    Good Hunting.
