No Images

Hey guys. I\'m starting to actually work on the Wiki now.

I\'ve only done one small article, but plan to do much more.

So my question is...

Why cant we use pictures? :blink:

Hi Anphicar, good question. Not entirely sure, but the main guy working on the template (the big guy behind astro Adders) has quite more than a normal load of work all to himself. So I\'m guessing we still have to look into pic linking and stuff, I\'ll have to discuss it with him one of these days.

Thanks for bringing up the issue, it would be a very cool way to get even more people involved in this project. \'Don\'t want to write articles,shame....want pictures of your models to be featured in those articles, full credit of course!\'

you should pm adders but i think it just hasn\'t been implemented yet.

2: copyright. the same thing that made us remove our SM banner a while back,

posting pics of an ultramarine model wouldn\'t breach copyright, but i think adders would have to set up guidelines of what we can and can\'t post to ensure no legal problems.

Basically anything on a wiki is free to anyone.
So any images and text can be copied and pasted elsewhere without the consent of anyone.

As such we have to be absolutely sure that the images on the site are uncopyrighted so if we posted pictures of our own models (eg Castus\' Ultramarines) then that\'d be ok as we cant really copyright them but if we posted images from the GW site, they are GW property and we would get in a bit of trouble as the Ordo Legallus descend on us with the green fury of an ork Waaagh!

I read it and I dont see why we cant have the images so long as we keep the dimensions, dont mess the pictures up in any way, give full credit, renounce any endorsement from GW, etc.

If its so opposed, we could try to use our own imagery (which would get increasingly hard as time went on) but i dislike that idea. Perhaps in a few articles, but it would be rediculous to fabricate so much imagery ourselves when it is freely and legally available.

I hope its just that Adders hasn\'t gotten around to it. Take your time if thats the case, Adders.

I know what you are saying about the IP from GW, but they specifically asked us to remove an item from our pages that was put in place with all the disclaimers. Basically, they suck at allowing true fans to use thier material to endorse a hobby which they pay for and sue people left right and centre for it.

So for us it\'s a case of careful image use- posting in threads is ok as its topical discussion, but parts inherent to the site such as banners are a no no as they are construes as advertisement using someone elses work.

I\'d show you the email from GW if I can find it relating directly to this topic, but I think I may have deleted it. Having said that, out wiki has no image program yet and it\'s on the hit list for adders, so it\'ll be happening soon, fear not. We can use our own images and such like, but nothing from them.
