Monthly Fiction Challenge - August

Hello again all and welcome to the Monthly Fiction Challenge for August.

For those who don't know the Monthly Fiction Challenge will set you a Stipulation/Theme. Using that you will try to write a 500 word minimum piece of fiction in the space of a month. When that's done, all those who have entered gain a single vote which they can use to vote for other pieces. Whichever piece gets the most votes will get themselves a nice prize.

The prize is a will receive a half brick of Astro Dice.

Enough of that, however, what is the sitpulation? Well... It's a little bit different.

This month, the theme is that of the Astroverse. You may have noticed that the site will soon be running a new RP set within the Astronomican itself. You will RP as yourself. That is the Astroverse and that is the universe I challenge you to pen this month.

Perhaps you will take a stroll to the Grand Markets, the Moderator's Palace or the Great Fiction Library - the choice is yours and the site is your fishbowl.

When you say " as yourself", do you mean as your Astro persona, which can have a character different from your real one, or does the character have to reflect the real you (with of course a few permissible tweaks, since none of us are Space Marines for example)?

I would like an answer to this as well. The other thing I think we need to know is related to other 'characters'. If the Astro members are the characters, but the characters are an online persona, not a true to life persona, then don't we need to know what those online characters are like? We're using existing 'characters', but we don't really know enough about them...

When I say yourself I mean the Astro Persona - how you portray yourself on the boards.

As to the other characters - I realize it can be difficult. I'm sorry for that - however, challenge can be a good thing and I'm sure you can think of something. If not, I'll put it down to experience and know not to do that again.

It would be interesting to write about what we perceive to be the persona of the Astro characters.

Hmm... as someone who is only an occasional user of this site (though not from now on, hopefully), I would find this a serious challenge. Does this need to be written an any kind of "in-universe" feel eg using elements of 40K or Warhammer, or can it be entirely original?

So, I'm new. I don't really know anyone, and i'm not a gamer at all. But I'll be a dirty name if I'm going to let that stop me! I just need to know how to learn about you all so I can write a steamy romance or something interesting about you. Is there a particular part of this site that would be best for that?
