    Default Finecast revisited

I've received a couple of Finecast models recently (one of which I actually thought was going to be plastic) and I have to say I'm noticing a marked improvement in the quality - the scupts are complete, there's no missing bits or bubbles. Could it be that they've finally got past the teething problems and quality control issues?

I have only bought one finecast model so far, and it was recently. I was kind of scared after hearing all the horror stories, but the only problem that it had was a bent hammer (I bought coteaz) which hot water fixed in about 20 seconds. I had no bubbles, missing parts or anything of the kind. Nothing unexpected, I was surprisingly pleased.

i've never had issues with finecast, even when it was the new terrible thing. I picked up the direct order techmarine a few weeks ago for a project i'm working on, top quality cast. I've still got a ork medik in his box (in storage till i find a large pile of money for my ork bike army) and he's the same, issue free.

i've seen people with issues with it in the past, but personally i've had none.

I have had a couple of issues but I have not bought any recently.

But I will say my Dark Eldar stuff Finecast stuff is stored in a hot water cabinet and the models have become brittle. I will not be buying any more finecast because of this. Models were fine with little flash and no bubble that I could see.

But because I have to store my toys out of the wifes sight its too much risk.

I was told by a friend/GW store manager, that after the initial complaints, they moved from a 30% QA check to 100% (they used to check a third of the models, now they check all of them), that would explain the difference.

He also said, if you oder from GW online you get the new stock, if you get it from a store it could be stock that's bee on the shelf for a while so might be left over from the "30%" batches.

I ordered some stuff from Hasslefree including a resin cast of one of their models. It'll be interesting to see the quality of theirs compared to GW. If Kev and Sally can cast properly in resin, GW has no excuses for their issues. Having heard mostly negative feedback about quality and fragility issues, I'm still staying clear of failcost.

Plus, the price increase corresponding with their cost decrease just seems ridiculously unfair. It's like going to buy a set of concrete parts for a construction project and being told "nope, you're going to pay us more and the pieces will be plaster" - Finecast is like a big miscast resin middle finger with bubble holes in it, pointed right at all of us.

I don't mind all that much now about quality, resin is far easier to fix than metal, it breaks clean rather than snaps bent, and it takes only a hair dryer to reshape things, I had a horrible burn with a mental sword and a flame, although I think that was a fake. but I agree with Alex, if price goes down, I will good for it, but till then, It's minimal spending only.

Of course if the plastic sets are reduced instead, which we all need more of, then I'm game.
GW's problem is, they think their models are Romeo y Jullieta (Churchill) cigars,
and they charge a cigar price for them, when in fact they're just Sobranie Cigarettes,
    Good. But no cigar.

I just don't understand how Mantic was able to get plastic-resin so right when GW did theirs so disastrously. Surely as the bigger 'luxury' brand, GW should have had their stuff together enough to do this right. Instead, they have been left looking like amateurs by a company they should easily be outperforming in terms of quality casts.

That's sort of why I bought the resin version of the kit from Hasslefree instead of a metal casting - it wasn't to save myself the 2$ difference, it was to see if a guy who quit GW because they treat their sculptors like garbage can do better than them in his basement. I haven't gotten the kits yet, but I'll post pics when I do.

I've had my eye on the finecast Huron Blackheart for quite a while, I'll probably wait till the CSM rework and pick him up with (hopefully) a lot of other cool new minis.
