Default Salvin's log of many things!

Well, here it is, my log. At the moment i'm working on my Badab war forces, namely the Tyrant's Legion, Lamenters and Howling Griffons, along with my little 'side projects of whatever takes my fancy at the time'.

To start with, lets get a couple of army shots up here!

The Tyrant's Legion force, as it stood back in May:

The very same force, as it stands in mid July:

    The Lamenters:

And a couple of the side projects, first up is the Deathwatch team:

Currently a 6 man team comprising of:
    Lamenters Sanguinary Priest
    Howling Griffon Librarian
    Ultramarine
    Blood Angel
    Space Wolf
    Black Templar

And a couple of my more minor distractions:

A Dark Angel veteran and a Word Bearer, along with a couple of my Gnoblar dungeon party that snuk in the back there.

    More to come!

Here's the Leman Russes for the Legion force, I find the Exterminator and the Battle tank work really well together, with one popping the transport and the other decimating the unit that falls out, or both pouring a nice ammount of firepower into a single infantry unit.

The Chimera actually belongs to my brother, but i'm planning on having one with that same turret but the larger dozer blade for one of my armsmen units so I thought i'd throw it in there.

Because of the wide variety of backgrounds the Legion forces have been drawn from i'm having the Battle Tank painted with an urban camo scheme but leaving the Exterminator the base colour.

And to finish off tonights posting, here are my two armsmen units.

    Hazardous environment veterans:

    Naval Armsmen:

Hopefully you chaps will have some questions, comments, criticisms, anything at all really, throw them at me! And I can do more pictures on request!

That's a pretty heteroclit army you've got there!

You've done a solid job on the camouflage scheme, and your two Armsmen units are acely converted. You've caught my interest for sure!

What are your plan with the Falcon hull? Make a Valkyrie would be the obvious answer, but what are your conversion plans?

Interesting stuff. Can't wait to see more.
Now, take a deep breath. Repeat after me "This is a miniature wargame forum. This place is only as good as I make it. The decision is mine. It does not control my destiny. It does not effect my paycheck. It does not make my mother love me any less. It is a fun place where I can talk to others that feel the way I do."

Thanks, hopefully I shan't disappoint! I'll be putting up some more

Thanks! Took me a while to get the camoflage to work on the fatigues to look right. Glad you like the conversions, hopefully you'll like the other conversions I have in store!
As for the Falcon Hull, i'm using it to represent an Arvus Lighter and i'm currently using it to ferry my Dark Eldar marauder unit into battle. I am, however considering getting a proper Dark Eldar Raider for them to use and picking up a unit of Forgeworld Corsairs for the Falcon. Either way not much will be happening to it anytime soon i'm afraid. I think that having a few units of Xenos, or Chaos cultists not only works from a fluff perspective but having them with their own transports really reflects their 'In it for the Money' rule.

    Now then! More pictures!

Here are a few characters from my Lamenters force:

From left to right we have: My incarnation of the Sanguinor, chapter master Malakim Phoros, the Deathwatch Sanguinary Priest and my first Librarian.

This fellow is the start of my second camo wearing armsmen unit:

For reasons relating to the fluff I will concoct for this force, he has a black eye. I'm pretty pleased with how effective a little Leviathan purple was. One of the guys from the first armsmen unit also has some bruised knuckles, both bruises a result of some friendly rivalry between the two units.

Here's a shot of the Retaliator unit i'm in the process of building:

And to finish off todays contribution, here's a heretic Space Wolf:

Inspired by the Bolter and Chainsword's Dornian Heresy, i'm planning on doing roughly a 400 point combat patrol just like him.

Thanks for looking, feel free to comment!

I'm amazed at how much of this I haven't seen before! If we ever get the chance I think we need to get Ross and apocalypse The armsmen are looking good, as is that chimera- it may be the wrong turret, but I think it works pretty well. Once you get that big dozerblade mounted it should look neat... be afraid of the pebbles

Ah yes, the Lamenters aren't going to have any gaming before they're all painted up, i'd like to have a force that i've never fielded as bare plastic haha! We do need to hire a van, pay Ross a visit, tie him up and throw him in the back along with his apocalypse forces, that would be great fun!

Thanks for the compliments, i'm quite chuffed that I had that idea! I'll be getting the big dozers mounted soon, dontcha worry.

Pebbles? Oh no......... Time to just turn around and get back in the thunderhawks...

Edit: Instead of adding another post, i'm going to tag the progress pics of my Librarian on here!

I'm rather pleased with how the gold has come out on his staff:

Really nice, but you might want to do something with the trunk. It looks flat (haha pun). A wash should do it well, or another wash.

Hmmm, that really looks extremely good. Not sure the gold is coming out quite gold enough- is this your technique? I've got to get around to trying that! He looks VERY ANGRY ALL THE TIME.

Is he scottish? Ossai, you know him?

Have no fear! The trunk has indeed been washed, and a few details have been added!

Cheers mate. That is the majority of my gold technique yeah, although I wanted a darker feel, somewhere between my gold and bronze. To get that I just changed the balance of the washes, more Devlan, less Sepia and left out the chainmail / mithral silver part.
He's a son of Sanguinius, when aren't they angry in combat!?

As for the hair, i've just been dying to paint some ginger hair ever since I saw Clive's unit of ginger marauders!

    Edit:

    A DILEMMA!

I had a bit of a brain fart earlier, lack of cups of tea methinks, and decided to try and represent the fact that the librarian is focussing a psychic power. Here's the result:

I'm not entirely satisfied with the result. I quite like the fist part, and i'm pretty pleased with how it hits the rest of the armour. The main bit i'm not happy about is the face, I really struggled to get any kind of lighting effect on there. Now I know i'm not great at OSL, although I am trying to improve, but i'm not sure its going to work with a bare head on this fellow.

So, i'm considering giving him a helmet, stripping the ginger head and sticking it on a member of the Death Company. What do you guys reckon, does the bare head look naff? Should I plant a helm on there?
