Well, after a few months on this forum, with an insane post count which must not be good for my
reputation upon this place; I guess it is time you all accepted it and moved on. :p

So my Tale of 8 Gamer log will show the work and effort of the next 6 months (crikey!) of this project. I will be working Apostles of Minthras; expansion of a current force that has crushed many under its boots of iron and shouted many down with roaring bolter & screeching chainsword. So I may as well throw in a couple a thousand points more!

Now, a few things have got me inspired to do this:

1) Competition: The other participants are pretty nice guys (I think) and I am sure the competitive streak will be matched by lots of internet banter and what not.

2) Improvement: not much to say here, but I do paint pretty quickly, but most of the time I don't paint. I am fairly sporadic in what and when I paint, although I have time, I waste it doing things elsewhere.

3) Profile: I think I am a bit fed up of being noted as another kid who wastes away the hours sat on one forum. Hopefully I won't be seen as that now.

--------------------------------

Army Choice
Chaos Space Marines

This army shall be an expansion upon my current Apostles of Minthras, inspiration has been taken from many a legion/warband espescially the Word Bearers as depicted by Anthony Reynolds in Dark Apostle & Dark Disciple. Once you get past the oddities, they are alright to read. Also, after painting a few of them and re-reading Storm of Iron and Dead Sky Black Sun, I must say I had to include a few Iron Warriors.

Army Design
Just a solid infantry force with armoured support and a few 'ard case units to boot. I will add a few rhinos, but they will be another side project. I already assembled one, but not a part of the project as I just won't get them done on time.

What Do I need?

1) Chaos Space Marine Battleforce
2) Foundation Paints
3) A few more paints, mostly black, metal and red.
4) Primer and Propellant
5) Iron Will
6) Paint Brushes

I shall be picking them up soon like, but for now I have a renegade strike force which has a few troops that need assembling. So that's the first thing on the list. 20 Troops may seem terrorising, but the tools I have should make it easier, plus I a third of that ork knovoy in a relaxed (as always) two weeks.

-------------

That's about it for now, I will later use the Bolter & Chainsword painter to mock up a few colour schemes. I have already painted a vast amount of Apostles as well as a few Iron Warriors, so there is no need for any test models. ;)

Alright, the basic colour schemes using the Chaos Space marine Painter from Bolter & Chaoinsword (http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/csmp.php).

Apostle of Minthras

http://www.astronomican.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=699&d=1230752369

Iron Warrior

http://www.astronomican.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=700&d=1230752402

It's not meant to be a mucky orange, more or less a brass trim but I can't be bothered spending nanoseconds to find a closer colour.

Regardless, I have put up attachments for you.

When are you planning on painting the first of them?

Gideon_Not_Ravenor

Well, construction will start at midnight. So I will paint them whenever. May paint the first five, but I will have pics of them just assembled first.

Gideon_Not_Ravenor

I have begun! Well, last night anyway, was up until 4 am doing it. :o But then again I could have been on Red Alert 3 or something like that!

Right then! First model ever for this log! (squad will be an iron warrior one)

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/DSCF0570.jpg?t=1230824975

Yes, a beaky Iron Warrior! I know!

Some of the parts have been cannibalised from the sternguard I made in october last year. I got fed up of them.

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/DSCF0571.jpg?t=1230825069

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/DSCF0573.jpg?t=1230825125

So this guy has:

Pre-Heresy Drum Fed Bolter. Thanks to Arkaedin and Hephesto, I was able to adapt their articles on bolter variants and mesh them together.

His sword was kindly donated by an Ultramarines ancient, which was first transferred across to a sternguard, then taken from him. Yes, he may be of Iron but Irony is not beyond him! :D

A bit more to arrive...

Not really...
http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/DSCF0575.jpg?t=1230825669

Just fiddling with his bolter. Doesn't look good from that angle, but further away it does I assure you. I was actually trying to have him holding his bolter in both hands as if he were left handed. 8 ruined arms later and I gave up.

next:

Chainsword donated by a smurf death watch captain. Although I don't particularly like the way the model has turned out, may change the chainsword.

Finally:

Aspiring Champion (Big cannibalisation here, but the new pose, green-stuffing and clean parts are fresh as well as the idea.)

Thanks mate. Just the first two, rest below you.

Just the first five for now.

True but then again it could be the beginning of a battle...as they do clean their armour.....even after every scrimmage with the enemy...remember Storm of Iron? Kroeger got that lieutenant to clean his armour after every battle.

Gideon_Not_Ravenor

Thanks, I was pleased with it myself.

How i did it:

Base coat- Tentactle Pink
Second Coat- Elf Flesh
Wash- Baal Red/Ogryn Flesh mix
Third Coat- Elf Flesh
Wash (very lightly now!)- Baal Red/Ogryn Flesh mix
Highlight: Elf Flesh

I use pink a lot for my flesh now, very effective in my opinion. Has a less cake like look to it compared to using browns.

No icon yet, I'm at a loss as to what to stick on. They will be chaos glory hogs because I don't really want to have my iron warriors dedicated to a god.

Although the model does seem rather flat, I like it. Yes, those are catachan muscles you see there. Thought it would be fitting for one model at least.

But yes, thoughts on this one?

Very nice icon bearer, The pose is as always very dynamic and looks as if it is in the mists of battle. I really like all of the painted ones as well, they look very cool indeed, my one suggestion would be to redefine the chevrons on the gun of baldy just go over the black stripes again, it will give it a more uniform look. Very nice all the same.

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/DSCF0641.jpg?t=1230920532

Just cut down the banner top but left enough to glue a new icon on. I will paint a tattered banner (bloody flag!) of the crimson fists. (Hehe...)

As you can see the bolter will be hanging from a strap. Need to greenstuff it on though. I also am aware the banner should be posed a bit more vertical, but it is beyond my skill to do that.

----

This guy is ready to rip apart a few bodies.

Yes, High Marshal Helbrecht's back pack with the candles trimmed off! I shall leave the scroll on because I can.

He is posed like he is about to hit something with a bit of power behind that chainsword.

Last Guy:

Not much to this one, all I did was trim down a berserker head.

So comments and critoscism are appreciated. Although I can only do some work when I get home. (I have a laptop you see.)

Suitably chaotic, although the one bolter strap that I see should be pulled tight by the weight of the bolter, not hanging slack.

He is the melta gun man. He is posed to be striking down a smaller foe (guardsman anyone? :D)

1) The melta gun is a club.
2) There was a shotgun beneath his chainsword arm, but I have removed it, far too clumsy looking. (The shotgun shall be placed upon another model)
3) Flamer heads are there for a little conversion twist. I have many spare yes and can afford the luxury. :p

I'll be doing the bolter straps although no pics, my computer will be turned off.

--------------

Painting was halted sorry. I am yet to undercoat these guys, I ran out of primer and in the end before I could get a chance to get them spray painted by the staff at GW, they announced they were doing a battle on omega level. (Big battle!)

I was dubbed the commander for the chaos side, and I got so caught up in directing my minions (chaos, orks and more chaos and more orks.) That I didn't manage to make an impact. However, we did win! :D I had to direct a battle on one side and leave the veterans to duke it out with only slight intervention on their side despite all of my models being on their side. the charge of 20+ models was slowed by poor rolls in terrain and my vindicator was neutralised in the enemies opening turn. The game will conclude next week (different setting) with hopfully a massed cityfight. I know I don't have the HQ requirements, but we were allowed 5 units (I took 3 chaos marine squads a daemon prince and a vindicator.) So next week I will hopefully post a battle report regardless. :)

I have some propellant, spray paint and a whole new load of models and paint. Although I left my snow flock in the store. :(

I love the irony of your photo stand. Iron Warriors are indeed Men'o'war and Kings of Metal :D

Looking good so far. I am awaiting the arrival of my Deamonettes, but should have a unit of Plague bearers ready by the end of the week.

to call them men is to sully their honour mate...they are far more vicious than just men.. :)

Iron Warriors dont generally use daemons...I sure hope they wont be making an appearance with the army..

1) Defilers and big daemon cannons are used yes?

2) No daemons unless if I want them, I may get some more but I do have my apostles of Minthras who are very much like the Word Bearers.

I have the second half of the Iron Warriors spray painted and I have already started thde construction on the Apostles of minthras squad. They will be led by a chapmpion called Irvin Kruss and I have already done a bit of fiction for him.

@ Nomad: Yes, the whole point of it. :D Also wanted to show off. :D

Iron Warriors see Daemon as purely utilitarian. They use them primarily as meatshields or to fuel their engines and weapons.

Thank you commodore!

All of this done in 4 and a tiny bit days. I am pleased so far. Construction of the next squad started yesterday but I wanted to post the Iron warriors up completed before I posted up the new models.

I ask this question now:

Have I 5 or more models that are significantly converted? Please go back and judge for yourself. :)

Rules:

Conversion: If either an HQ , a monstrous creature or at least 5 models of any troop are significantly (head, arm/weapon, feet/torso) converted (basing doesn't count), +1 point is awarded for each converted troop/HQ on the Force organization Chart.

The "Leaping guy" and the "Thrusting gut" are pretty good, and do look converted. ;)

But define "Significantly converted".

What..., you mean, you have no clear definition???

If so you might want wat to read the fine print of that contract :D

Gideon_Not_Ravenor

Ah right, well if any part of the model is converted and is significantly visible and all of that plap, then I assume you get points for it.

By the way who is the thrusting gut?

For five days also I have worked on this fiction:

(959 Words)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Irvin Kruss paced himself slowly, alone. The chaos space marine champion slammed his boots heavily to instil fear within his enemy; the general of the Imperial Crusade upon this blasted rock; was somewhere within this command centre. It was his duty to the Apostles to lead his men, of which he was the only champion whose squad had not suffered casualties in the heavy assault landing and securing the hive. Phractees and Vanneus had performed an admirable task in breaching the fortress, despite brothers dying, he still thought highly of them, they had survived at all odds and had outdone themselves. The commander stank of piss and sweat; Kruss followed the odour shooting any officials who opposed him. These Imperials were resolute to the end and Irvin Kruss respected them for that.

Irvin Kruss was of Eye of Terror origin. Born on a harsh world too insane for imperials. The place had daemons stalking the corridors and halls, terrifying for most who lived there, more or less the masters of the world he had grown up in during his age as a mere mortal. It was a harsh place, but it was enough, some worlds of the Imperium were worse with terrible pollution rates and standards of hygiene. He had even had an education by the great educators of Chaos. But enough memories for now, an apostle had chosen him at the age of ten and now he was something else entirely. It was pointless to remember something useless to his current aim...

A loud blast rang from the room Kruss was approaching. The smell of the explosion told him that a melta-blast had occurred; the general had probably made the blast to run through the wall. Irvin let loose three shots from his under-slung bolter. All of the rounds Exploding against the wall opposite him. But the general had obviously run through the breach already. The smell of charred flesh came from a servitor. But regardless, he gunned down an escaping astropath who must have sent a message of utmost urgency regarding the attack of and set off chasing the general. He could have shot the man many times, but his pride would not allow it; he was curious as to how this man would flee.
The champion soon caught up with the general. He had left scents of fear in the form of sweat. He was desperate. The man soon exited the building by a ramp onto a landing field. Bolter rounds slicing the air in his general direction to keep him running as Irvin ran up the stairway to reach the exit.
Upon exiting the building, Irvin saw the man approaching a speeder of some description; the imperial technology was unknown to him, with most of his fighting occurring in the Eye. But he figured that the vehicle would land and quickly extract the general. Time to eliminate him before he became a warp spawn.

The general carried a las-pistol and a power-sword. No match for his bolter, power-fist and armour.
“I have a challenge for you,” Irvin shouted. Halting the man and still advancing. But the man saw this as a duel of pride and turned to face the chaos marine, his power-sword flaring.
All he had was a las-pistol and a power-sword. No match for his bolter, power-fist and inhuman strength.
Remaining silent now Irvin let the ammo drum in his bolter clang to the floor. The general stepped out of the shadows with his pistol bearing. Irvin threw nodded as a mark of respect for the general. A fight it was.
“Why did you not just kill me easily traitor?” Questioned the general as he approached Kruss.
“Traitor? I think not.” Snarled Kruss, Insulted
“You are a foul servant of the ruinous powers, you are a heretic!”
“So you see me as a traitor because of your religion? I was born in the Eye of Terror, I fight to appease the gods that I know and love. The race or religion I fight matters not to me.”
“So? You are a traitor!”
“No, I never knew what the Imperial church until I became marked by an apostle of the most glorious Minthras. So tell me how could I have betrayed something I did not know of nor never followed?”
“Gah! You are still chaos scum! You pollute this land with dishonour and taint!”
“Now now, I have not insulted by blasphemies now have I?”
“The fact you are tainted and evil is enough to blaspheme in the name of the Immortal God Emperor!”
“Now why do you say I am evil? I am not tainted but merely gifted.”
“You know what you are chaos-scum!”
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Your eye seems damaged.”
“Enough, I shall claim your blasphemous head this day!”

Being spoken to by what must be an unusual character had shaken this man thought the champion as his power-fist erupted into life, but regardless he should be a pleasuring kill. The man charged forward, swinging his power-sword for a fatal swipe. But Irvin caught it in his power-fist. Quickly he pulled the man towards his chest, and gripping the back of his head, Irvin gripped the back of his head and slammed the man's face into the dirge-caster upon his chest. The result crushed the man's head. Irvin Kruss let his enemy fall to the floor, and claimed his sword as a trophy of his kill. He turned on his vox, which had remained silent. An easy kill but satisfactory non the less.

“Lieutenant Phractees, the commander is eliminated, I await further orders once I have disposed of hostiles.”

Then Irvin felt a new rush of adrenaline as he charged forward to the now landed Imperial aircraft.

Awesome work Fire Harte. I like all the dynamic poses you've used so far; the banner being my favorite. I also like how you have the bolter's strapped to their sides. I rarely ever put the extra bit of equipment on my guys, because I feel the model is clutered, but those look fantastic.

Starky
06-01-2009, 04:59 PM
If you haven't used the spray gun before then I advise the use of caution, if you water your paint down too much then it split into it's constituent colours giving a very odd, inconsistent colour. Follow the guide line on the paint jar for foundation paints but if you are sing just normal citadel colours then it really is trial and error, use a primed bit of sprue to test the paint. Good luck with it and I can't wait to see more Fire Harte.

Basically a guy running with a flamer-pistol.

Drum-fed underslung bolter marine (Irvin Kruss):

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/DSCF0864.jpg?t=1231544047
http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/DSCF0863.jpg?t=1231544101

It is the aspiring champion like, but I forgot to take a pic of his powerfist arm. Hephesto likes his champions for conversion. I do to. I just like converting them in many different ways. Generally a sort of command from afar sort of pose. Powerfist is mandatory though. :D

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/DSCF0861.jpg?t=1231544374

There is a chain on his leg so I get away with no bolter strap!

------------------

A corvus marine... (Yeah!!)

I saw in trygon's WIP thread that he had taken chaos backpacks and taken off the pointy out bits in between backpack and vent, then he attached the vent onto the new surface. I kinda liked it. (Thanks Trygon!)

You may note I am actually switching the shoulderpads round on the squad to. Just because I can.

No pics of the fifth guy but he is a true iron warrior/dark mechanicum adept. Not very overly-mechadendrite like but I like him so therefore I care not if you don't. Pics tomorrow though!

---------------------------------

So then, fifteen marines done. I may construct one rhino and paint one I already made*. But to be honest the Yorkshire torunament is just out of sight. Not possible now. :-(

*Won't appear in this log, only the one that is to be made will.

Hence the reason why the Heart of Blood waded into his army.

8 days for me. My deadline for models painted is the end of the week. Then a bit of basing if I can. Although when looking for some inks in the discontinued paints box at my store, no brown colours. :(

This means I have to have bland snow bases with no mud/dirt and I may have to leave the Iron Warrior squad at the one squad. Devlan mud just won't do it to.

Bytemeh2
13-01-2009, 04:22 PM
If no inks are available to you. Try watering down any brown paint you have; water them down to the point where watercolors have more consistency. Then smear it over the snow so that its almost soaked. Usually it will stay in beads of water on your base if you mix it right. Then take a small sponge (the ones from inside blister packs work great) and dab up the excess.

You should get a really nice muddied snow effect.

Bonus Tip: This also works great for putting realistic splashes of mud on vehicles. Or blood on weapons.

Bigger range mate! ;)

That's what he wanted. Improving the inferior weapon's range improves the ability to hit you :D

So far I have:

13 Points

Expanded as Required: 6
Models 100% Painted: 5
Fiction: 2

I don't think my conversions are significant enough to count and I don't want to go about claiming them as I will seem biased. But I am sure you understand I can claim the first two as they are finished. Silver approved of the fiction.

-------------------------------

Note: I am the first to finish this month. Truth be told I was expecting khaine to drop by any moment and claim my rightful glory. :)

I may do a side project or two but these will not count for this particular competition. I'll also be adding a lot more musical references via modelling. So yeah, watch out for those... :D

Review of January

Ok, so this month I was the first to finish, pretty proud of that even if I have had a lack of replies, meh; fine by me. ;) I just hope next month I can get done at least, I already have plans and now I have managed to locate and place all of my frames/sprues in a new storage thingy, so yeah.

I plan to make a terminator lord/sorcerer in February as well as another squad of space marines. The space marines will be Iron Warriors and the commander will be a hopefully a modular one, not to the extreme but modular enough.

Onto my reflection; painting isn’t the best but it isn’t the worst ever. I was pretty pleased by the amount of work and effort I put into them so I will definitely be fielding them a lot more now on my current army. I was pleased with the progress I worked and I was pretty damn proud that although I was told I needed the last half of my Iron Warrior squad painted before I used them again, I had managed to paint twice that much! :D

The Iron Warrior squad was pretty fun to do what with painting half of them in the first day of the year. I also was pretty pleased by the way I churned them up and how fast I did it, as well as that although they don’t look like the general Iron Warriors we see (big horns and face grilles etc); I am pretty sure the Iron Warriors will use any marks of armour they can get hold of. Yup, I see them that way. I’ve actually wanted to paint a bunch of Iron Warriors for ages like so yeah it had to be done! My three favourite models of the squad are: The Bald Guy, The Icon Bearer and The Stabby Hack. Obviously you may think these are terrible but I like them the most! :p

The next squad was my Apostles of Minthras squad: another batch of space marines. This time I opted for red and used the spray gun. It wasn’t very effective when used outside at freezing temperatures and I was generally not pleased with the results of the spray-painting at all. Regardless, I got over it deciding better to do something than nothing, but the fiddly bits, spikes and all of that which accompany your average chaos space marine is rather frustrating to go over black or white (depending on your preference of undercoat). Looking at the unit though it turned out pretty well. I do like the red and even though it is a tad brighter than my other two squads I will leave them as they are because there are no oddballs in the unit. Another bit of disappointment I had with this unit is that some of the models didn’t quite turn out as I had expected. Not to worry I aren’t too bothered, they still look cool in my opinion. I wanted to emphasise on the bolt pistol/chain-sword feel on these guys, make it look like they are in the thick of things with bolters cast aside or slung on straps because they will be less effective in the current situation of killing. But alas, to conclude, the favourite three models of the squad are: Approaching Flamer, Running Beaky and the Triumph of Chaos (Hail Manowar!!)

What about musical inspiration? Well, firstly we have the Tattered Banner from the Iron Warriors, and the Bloody Flag from the Apostles. The idea came from “Tattered Banners, Bloody Flags” a song by Amon Amarth. I generally liked the atmosphere of the song and the fact that these guys will relentlessly approach in vast numbers. The other noticeable inspiration is the Apostle with his weapons raised, looking like the guy from a Manowar cover. I love Manowar and I wanted to start incorporating their imagery into my models, which isn’t that difficult considering Manowar have a very cool warrior approach. Be warned, I will include many more musical references!

I also understand that I was asked to produce a thousand words but I haven’t got it in me. That as they say is that!

Right then, can someone please judge the conversions for this month please? :)

Silver
30-01-2009, 09:25 PM
Great review, Fire Harte. I should also get to doing that :D Although I had asked for 1000 words, I can now see that all that is relevant can be said within 1k words and otherwise it'll just turn into a rant. So 'tis a good thing I decided while writing the rules that you neither get nor lose any points to not reaching 1000 for the monthly review, but I think we can all agree on the fact that it is a requirement for each member to at least post a summary of some sort, better than none. I'm looking forward to seeing your HQ next month ;)

FEBRUARY

Ok then, so I was waiting a long time to start; yeah I'm that sad! But no actually, I was waiting ages, like two weeks!

So, without further ado:

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/February/DSCF1176.jpg?t=1233485820

I basically wanted a guy who could dub up as both a sorceror and a chaos lord. I originally went for an axe but decided it wasn't enough, so I took the sorceror staff and with a bit of pinning managed to produce what should hopefully look like a halberd. I also wanted t use that head as it was not cruel looking and shows that there is good no matter how small lodged in the perpetuity of evil. (if anyone gets that at all...)

Also, I wanted the combi-melta to posed differently, so I cut it away from its arm which is posed to look like he is aiming/firing. Then I just took the arm of a combi-bolter and just removed the wrist joint. Next I just pinned them in place. The arm is also detachable to.

---

The head has been trimmed and pinned so I can replace it with another head if I like. Plus if the sorceror dies then I can take it off and go "BOOM HEADSHOT!!" :D Anyway pics of that:

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/February/DSCF1178.jpg?t=1233486000
http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/February/DSCF1179.jpg?t=1233486321

As you can see, it took a slight bit of work to do this, not too much though, but I removed a notable portion of the back and neck-joint- socket.

Still got a bit to do on this guy before I paint him (I'll paint him to my best standards though!). :)

Me to, sure we have that resin stuff but it doesn't really add the imposing feel to it. Also I used this to add height to the model and add the "surveying" look and feel. (I hope I haven't missed some pun or whatnot!)

The kit is great, just like the space marine commander one, lots of bits and it is really nice to play around with. :)

Yep, a static guy, but this guy is lending covering fire to his allies, there will be another guy in the squad like this to show a rapid advance to secure another building.

That's all for now, I think this time I'll work on the building of the squad before I paint it. I'm going to produce some more running dudes like this to, as I want to portray the squad rushing an enemy location across open ground.

Anyways, nice work - looks like you're pretty close to getting that second conversion point for five converted models, so keep up the work! :)

A bit more reposing, it is getting to the point now that I'm actually enjoying it! :D

The legs were intended for the guy "just landed", but the torso of the space marine didn't reflect it very well and the legs are too large to get the desired effect.

These are the first two models. I've decided to work on two a day and do basing last.

Basing will take the form of this:

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/February/DSCF1339.jpg?t=1234467306

Just to show how things generally look. The snowfall has stopped but now it has set it's pure white, so in order to achive the pure white I'll have to base the bases in white paint. But I plan to do all of that last.

Ok guys, as much as I don't mind the odd ball discussion, one page of no hobby update is kinda embarrassing. So lets try to cut out on that. :)

----------------

So, I painted another 4 guys; pictures taken in the kitchen because it was near the pizza I was cooking. The dashes and splashes of paint on the wall are my doing.:

Model #3

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/DSCF1385.jpg?t=1234643424
http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/DSCF1386.jpg?t=1234643542

The observant amongst you will notice that I added a spike on top. None on the bottom, never thought of it. I may follow up this idea on another Icon bearer actually...

Model #4

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/DSCF1387.jpg?t=1234643739
http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/DSCF1388.jpg?t=1234643766

This is my icon bearer, yep, bloody strips of flesh daubed in crude icons. Made by the lesser apostles. Oh and ethereal skin came loose. Touche I think, now I can eventually make strips of flesh for every enemy codex.

Model #5

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/DSCF1389.jpg?t=1234643906
http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/DSCF1390.jpg?t=1234643968

No annotations here. Now laugh at the paradox I have created.

Model #6

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo171/Fire_Harte/Tale%20of%208%20Gamers/DSCF1392.jpg?t=1234644067

This guy is a guy adding fire suppport from above or shooting a round through a fallen throw. Who knows? Could be a mercy kill.

====================

Not the best painting ever I admit it's rather crap. However they have been an absolute joy to paint/convery. The hammer dude has had to have a bit more work on him as his hammer broke off and I thought best to replace it. However, the conversion looks much better in my opinion.

That's all then... C, C & C are welcome.

scribe

I like the finished product on these guys, fire. The guy turning to run the other way and the guy tanking on, full steam ahead is a bit of a paradox for your squad, ye, lol.

Good stuff though. The guy about to turn and run is my favourite, as I said before. :) He's got character.

Gideon_Not_Ravenor
14-02-2009, 09:54 PM
Which model is part of the paradox?

I'd like to know see because I posed the squad for:

1) Running across open ground
2) Deploying in a wide spread from a transport.

Here:

90% - 100% models painted: 5 points

Excellent stuff, fire harte. I am just going to give you a bit of rep even though I said i wouldn't. :)

I see you've converted to the foundation paints. How are you finding those? I have a yellow that is in the foundation range but no more than that. One of the staff in my local GW store was telling me about them and I was a bit 50/50 on them, although the nids that he painted up using the foundation paints came out very nicely.

The red is for the gods, helps you cover over black in a coat or two, and thin coats not thick. They rock!

Gideon_Not_Ravenor
22-02-2009, 06:08 PM
They are all good I think. Makes painting much faster although I didn't use mechrite as a base coat. That's the only one I have problems with as it seems to start smelling off. Apart from that though they are all pretty decent. I used scab red for the basecoat although I normally use the mechrite.

@ Kish: That's true! :D

Storm Them! (New Version!)

Fallen cultists lay where they had been dropped. Company VII of the 98th Jondarre Jaguars had held them off from overrunning Water Filter III for the last three hours. It seemed they had killed hundreds of men. A count by trooper Meretz who was obsessed with body counts confirmed the total was actually fifteen hundred and ninety four. This included a renegade astartes who was leading the attack personally slain by Commissar Narrimeadz. The surrounding killing open fields were silent now and reinforcements were on their way to replace the wary troopers. The protection of the water filters was necessary to ensure clean water was supplied to the Imperial forces. Without them then the liberation of E’Tal’Losis would have been a disaster.

The Imperium had arrived to fend off the Sept Bor'kan of the Tau Empire. The whole assault had caught the Tau by surprise and they were slowly being pushed back. But then an assassination attempt by the forces of chaos upon the lord general had scattered the Imperial Guard and forced them to retreat. Sept Bor’kan had long since retreated from E’Tal’Losis deeming the current incursion of chaos too unstable to contain. Although the forces of chaos were being held back, if they managed to successfully overrun one of the five water filters then this could severely compromise the Imperials and force them into defeat. For the last three months endless hordes of cultists had stormed these five points but they had been either thrown back or wiped out utterly by the Emperor’s warriors.

Corporal Luciia slammed a fresh clip into her lasgun, scanning the buildings opposite the Platoon’s station. Nothing moved at all. The heavy bolter teams nearby also did this, except the loaders all ran to reload the belt feeds. Commissar Narrimeadz issued a shout for silence. His plasma pistol rose vertically in a sign of ceasefire as he beckoned his adjutant over. Luciia moved closer, knowing the captain issuing orders. The commissar switched onto the captain’s channel, and a message from the captain’s Vox master muffled by the static and the low volume setting.

A pause from Narrimeadz followed. His face frowned in thought.

“Acknowledged Captain; but how are our reinforcements arriving? Ah… mmhm… mmhmm… mmhmm… excellent! Will be sure to do so!”

The transmission ended and Narrimeadz handed the receiver to his adjutant. The next thing he did was to clap his hands and grab the attention of the platoon.

“Alright listen up! Command reports reinforcements are en-route, in the form of Preacher Battle Tanks; they sort of look like a rhino and a russ mashed together in a finesse of engineering by our adepts of Mars. Believe me there will be a bit of a russ in this operation! Alas bad pun but a company of Iron Guard will deploy from the Preachers. While they themselves are executing this move we must board the transports ourselves. Oh and two squads per transport as well. Understood? Good. Oh and we move quickly when we see the tanks. Ah… which is now sorry! Any stragglers will be left behind. So go go in the name of the Emperor’s boxer shorts!”

With that the entire company rushed into the open grounds outside the complex to execute the orders. Things were going rather well and it seemed the cultists had given up any assaults. The combined military might of both companies and armoured support vehicles would be enough to fight any of them off regardless. The vehicles pulled up vertically to allow each vehicle to be boarded by two access hatches while exposing one side. Six vehicles pulled up overall; each one a hybridisation of both rhino and russ. The platoons moved out to the access hatches, it seemed to Lucia that the Mordians were a bit slacking in their “precision” drills, but suddenly the hatches violently slammed open.

Instead of fellow imperial guardsmen giant monstrous renegade astartes garmented in icons of chaos and other atrocities greeted them. The momentum of the advance of the 98th Jondarre proved to be their defeat as troopers unwillingly treaded into the path of the flamers, bolters and melta-guns; that silenced many of the Jondarre in the first volley. There was no second volley as chainsword and blades hacked brutally into the ranks. Luciia ducked under a swipe and managed to thrust her bayonet towards the attacker’s midriff. She grinned in satisfaction as a roar of pain was torn from the giant. Yet it was short lived as her face was brutally smashed by its bolter drum and knocked to the ground. Narrimeadz leading from the back as usual led a counter charge with three men. A melta-gun was pointed at the giant yet he simply raised his bolter and gunned the man down. Narrimeadz roared as he was about to strike but his rouse was short lived as one enemy slammed into him and raked a gruesome combat blade across him. The two chaos marines rushed on to kill more of her comrades in arms. Mere seconds later there was silence and over fifty brutish figures glanced among the fallen. Silencing injured with either a bolt round or an armoured boot to the head. Gore and sickening crunches stained Luciia’s mind. She was too hurt and paralysed with fear to move or make a sound. One of these warriors approached her; she noted it was the one who had hit her. The giant then addressed her.

“Thank you, it seems that commissar my brother apostle killed was a direct descendant of my previous family, his features are so akin to mine. I am surprised by the coincidence. What was his name? Mine is Narrimeadz of course.”

“Surprisingly enough Narrimeadz,” Said Luciia weakly.

“Interesting. Oh and I thank you for inflicting this wound, were I human I would have died, but I am a chosen of Minthras. You have shown error in myself that can be corrected.” Replied Narrimeadz. Then he levelled his bolter to the corporal’s head and fired…

That's 2 points awarded for you, my good sir. But there are some small mistakes in the text that need ironing. Oh - by the way: looks like you have challenged Bor'kan, haven't you? My reinforcement Cadre ships which will leave the planet in March (as well as my challenged mind in regards to literature) have thus, finally, found a destination!....and with that, an opponent. ;)

then the Imperial front on E’Tal’Losis would follow due to painful blindness and constipation.

Silver, is it alright if I re-do that a bit?

Because it sucks and the word Valkyrie doesn't register on my spellcheck. :o

As long as you don't exceed 1000 words unless you're happy with only 1 point, you are free to do whatever you wish with your work :)

Excellent, I'm actually reworking it right now! I'll edit the original post. Thanks mate! :)

EDIT: Done.

Nice edits. Although it seems you totally got rid of the first story?

P.S: My finger is hovering menacingly above the REP dock button after I became a victim of a brain eating zombie. O.o Not funny.

Indeed the story changed because I thought a whole new approach to it was necessary. I didn't like how the first version panned out.

Ah the zombie thing... well, I don't think it is that bad... I put it in there for a laugh, no offence intended at all.

Review of February

February 09 was a month where I actually thought I wouldn’t reach the deadline. I got the squad of apostles done but I wasn’t really up for painting the sorcerer. In the end though once he was primed I realised that all three games he has featured in he has died by the horrible instant death rule. These three occasions are:

· By the pimpin’ fists of Papa Calgar (chapter however was the chapter of St George)
· A lascannon shot by a guardsman.
· A Nob’z Power-klaw (although the shoota boyz had reduced him to one wound already.)

So yes, I decided he should be painted to give his body a millimetres more of protection. I warily picked up the model to paint Sunday morning and the painting just flowed naturally. I guess I was delaying it because I was scared I would mess it up, a bit like this summary.

The squad however was a leap in the Apostles for a few reasons. They are the first Apostles in the army (not Iron Warriors) to carry melta guns. They also had some very extensive reposing, which was very tedious considering the quality of Games Workshop glue, which I buy due to compromise in the law over in Britain. I normally would not be allowed to buy any plastic or super glue but the guys at Games Workshop know me. Anyway, it got progressively easier as I got more done. Don’t shy away from doing reposing to any new guys, it is a lot like painting or gluing tanks but different process. Also this squad was a squad, which I got slightly better at painting on. I realised I haven’t really been applying my washes correctly and I am glad this squad was the correction of it. My favourite model of the squad has to be the melta gunner running with the combat blade in his left hand and the topknot head.

So what’s for next month?

I’m definitely filling the elite slot with a five strong legionnaire of Alpha squad with 5 plasma guns. Ah the conversion opportunities. ;)

My next slot (one of my choice) was going to be a second chosen squad but I can’t decide which colour scheme so I’ve settled for either a land raider or a vindicator to boot. I would make a second preacher battle tank but I need a few more Leman Russ for that (that preacher tank I’ve been hinting at will hopefully feature in the Astro Mag). Who knows? I may go ahead to cannibalise one of my current Leman Russ and convert that into some form of chaos predator for my chaos marines. Maybe, maybe not…

So that’s all from this month’s review. I’ve got a few exams coming up but I’ll try to get one of the units done before that. They’ll be relatively small anyway.

Please note that the first post in this log contains a database that provides links to the start of each individual month and it’s comments. (with the February one probably done once you've read this :)

I didn't get this part. There's a law in GB preventing you from purchasing plastic glue?

P.S: I might have just been motivated to steal your rather brilliant idea of the month links in form of quotes.

Well, now we have a law which states no one under 18 can buy strong solvents or spray paint.

As for the Navigation: Nick it! I don't care! :D
