Lieutenant Brazen marched forward. He did not pause as the gun shots tore around him, nor as they felled a man besides him. He needed not to shout at his men, each of the stern faced Mordian?s marched forwards ignoring the battle around him. He raised his hand, the men stopping at the signal. He turned to face the enemy Eldar. The warriors held there guns firm and their fire constant as they Mordians completed their deployment. He fell to one knee and raised his lasgun. Each of the Mordians on the front row followed suit and preparing to fire. He held the command, waiting for the moment to fire.
?Fire,? he shouted of the gun fire.
The first volley of lasfire cut down the Eldar warriors. A few still stood firing sporadically at the Mordian Guard. Brazen rose to his feet as the last of the warriors charged. The warrior continued into the hail of fire, each of the lasshots battering against the armour. The disciplined fire cut it, the Eldar stumbling as it died. Brazen uttered a single word and commanded the Mordians into fire teams. Each of the five men marched forwards in directions only they knew. Brazen left himself smile, he knew this battle was not a war of number, but of discipline and faith, both of which the Mordian Iron Guard exceeded in.
The Lieutenant slung his lasgun over his back, his freed hands reaching for pistol and chainsword. He marched forwards, the Mordians who formed his command squad following. He pointed towards a small knot of buildings and marched forward. The sound of a battle close by began to grow above the constant sound of a large scale war. Brazen spread his men amongst the buildings, he and a guardsman names Jarvinas taking position behind a barricade. Brazen smiled and waited for what was to come, and sure enough they came. Five warriors in stark bone white armour with burning mains of fiery red hair moved on them.
?Hold your fire until they are at twenty notches,? he said into his vox bead.
?Understood sir,? sounded the reply.
Brazen nodded to the young guardsman next to him. Both raised the lasgun and pistol and began to batter volley after volley into the charging. Brazen aimed carefully, his single shot catching the speedy creature directly in the face. The corpse fell backward as it legs continued forwards. He fired again, but the second Eldar dodged the shot. The lieutenant flicked the laspistol control to full auto as the Eldar continued. He paused as the three men under his command fired. Caught by surprise the Eldar warriors lost the innovative, but they did not stop. Another two fell from the volleys but brazen recognised they would not be stopped.
Brazen flicked he chainsword into life, the blade humming gently in his hand. He raised it in time to block the Elders first strike, its blade sheering the teeth from his weapon. He ducked the second strike, its speed amazing him as he barely got away. He stepped back allowing the blade to cut before him before spinning on his heel. The warrior screamed as the foot impacted against its ornate death mask. It recovered almost instantly and brought its weapon down, the blade could not be stopped this time, its cut straight threw the chainswords housing. Brazen smiled and he drove its pistol into the creatures face and pulled the trigger. The Mask vaporised under the multiple shots, its headless corpse tumbling to the floor before him.
Brazen rose to his feet allowing himself to catch his breath. He looked down and felt a note of sorrow for Jarvinas who stood with the sword ebbed in his chest and against the wall. The officer dismissed the thought. The young man had completed his duty as any good Mordian does. The officer turned to his men, only two of which still stood.
?Gentleman, honour the dead for they are with the Emperor Almighty.?
