Hi im just starting to get inNecromunda so i need three bits advice from all you gang vets out there.
1 How is this list for a starter gang.
House: Van Saar

Gang Leader – 200
Chain Sword, Laspistol, Flamer,

Heavy – 185
Heavy Stubber, Knife(“first one free”)

Heavy – 180
Heavy Stubber. Knife

Ganger –80
Shotgun, Club

Ganger –80
Shotgun, Club

Ganger –75
Lasgun

Ganger –75
Lasgun

Ganger –75
Lasgun

Juve –50
Lasgun

Total: 1000

I wold group the lasgun guys together, send the shotguns with the leaders and let the heavies hang back and blow stuff up.

2 Dont have any names for them so that is my second question: any good names?

3 Since I am pretty strapped for cash, do you guys think that between a box of catachans, lots of bits and an unholy amount of green stuff would make ok gangers?

Tanks in advance, Wraithlord

well then, lets have a look. i don\'t think I\'d give the leader the flamer, it\'s an extravagance, and special weapons are a little bit unnecessary for starter gangs. The armaments for your gangers are pretty good, lasguns and knives, shotguns and clubs make for a solid set of weapons. I\'d be inclined to give your juve a cc weapon and pistol and maybe another cc ganger and get them to support your leader.

2 heavies is quite a lot for a starter gang, you\'ll scare the living daylights out of most of your opponents, but heavies are scarily easy to get around if you don\'t have enough gangers to force people into their lines of fire.

Watch out for people using infiltrators/tunnels/vents and coming out right on top of your heavies, they\'ll do a lot of damage.

Just my opinions, although it should be said that your gang is very in keep ing with the Van Saar ethos of tech over muscle.

Hey Wraithlord,

well done on getting into Necromunda we sem to be going through quite a bt of a Necromunda Renaissance here at Astro, huh.

Alright, your list seems quite solid, your lord isn\'t too expensive which is good though making him have a flamer might be slightly risky as he\'ll have to get really close up to do any damage and with your gurrent list he only has minimal support from the two shotgun troops. If I were fighting this list I\'d take out the leader and his two buddies as soon as possible while they slogged across the board and whithout your best character and already down 33.3% of your total gang it wouldn\'t be long until you started taking bottle tests and then its only a case of making you run or moving my own CC specialists after the rest to wipe you out.

Instead of trying to cover for your major weakness try and use your leader to further your strengths ie your never going to beat goliaths in CC but you can blast them from across the board.
What I\'d do would be drop your current leader\'s kit and give him a bolter or something else (maybe a plasma gun if he can use it) and have him snipe enemy specialists or leaders while the rest of your firebase focuses on the opposing grunts.

If I were you I\'d lose the juve with the lasgun as well. He\'ll more than likely than not be a points sink for now. Better give him a pistol and a knife. I\'d say mayb drop your second heavy as well, I find that their effectiveness tends to fall slightly once you alread y ahve one but thats just me I\'d say change for some juves with basic kit and maybe swap those to shotgunners as well for more juves. That way you\'ll have a nice long range base and plenty of meatshields to get in the way of any nasty suprises your opponent might throw at you.

Those are my thoughts anyway...

Cheers,

Dim

What I would do with this list is the gang leader and shotgun guys would form a strike force, the guys with lasguns would go off in pairs and the juve would “bodyguard” the heavy. All the miscellaneous items are common, so I don’t think I’m breaking any rules. For the pairs of lagunners, I would send one with an extra knife, one without.

EDIT: Here is a new list w/ DIms ideas. I am keeping with more high-techish so tell me which list is better:
Gang Leader – 270
Chainsword, Stub Gun, Dum Dums, Plamsa Gun, Frag Grenades, Filter Plugs, Photo-Visor

Heavy – 210
Heavy Stubber, Knife (first one free), Frag Grenades, Photo-Visor

Ganger –105
Shotgun, Manstoppers, Club, Photo-Visor, Filter Plugs

Ganger –105
Shotgun, Manstoppers, Club, Photo-Visor, Filter Plugs

Ganger –100
Lasgun, Knife, Stub Gun, Photo-Visor

Ganger –100
Lasgun, Knife, Stub Gun, Photo-Visor

Ganger –100
Lasgun, Knife, Stub Gun, Photo-Visor

Total: 990

And what about names and conversions?

Wowser! Necromunda is kicking off like we\'re back in 1996!!!

Good to see more folks getting into this - I congradulate you Wraithlord *pat on the back*

As for you\'re list, being fairly new to the game myself, I can\'t offer much in the way of advice, especially as I\'m doing Goliaths - completely the opposite in terms of tactics! However I\'d agree with Dim in that you want to maximise what you\'re good at which is blowing everything to bits from miles away!

As for gang names think of anything that sounds cool/crazy/funny etc..

And for your models I\'d say go for it! We\'ve got a guy with no internet at our club wanting to make a gang of redemptionists out of old chaos cultists (2nd ed. i think...) as well as those scantily clad chainsaw wielding sisters repentias or whatever they are so I\'d say you\'ve got a much better chance of making a good-looking coherent gang than him. It\'ll take a lot of green stuff to get those catachans wearing those protective suits though! Still there\'s nothing like a challenge is there? ;)

I still think you\'re thinking too small for your gang. although that\'s just my opinion. Just to give you an idea, this is my Escher gang from on old, but I used the entire boxed gang for my starter force, and then expanded to what you see here, just to mention, this lot has a gang rating of 6146, I present, Black Velvet.

Well for one, you gang is techincally six times bigger than mine. And a couple other things, I want to stay really Van Saar and go with lots of tech (i like the second list on my last post). Also, the person I want to teach knows nothing about any games workshop games, so I want him to have more basic troops than my advanced troops. I would like to build up a bigger gang, but I think a small, tricked out gamg is more Van Saar.

sounds fair enough to me, I didn\'t realise that was what you were aiming for. I\'d love to get back into necromunda, and blood bowl, guess it\'s time to start mugging people down at my local GW.

Go with the tech gang, I think it\'ll prove an interesting challenge.

Good looking gang there mate, very fluffy just by adding photo-visors.

I agree with this list, although I\'d defo watch out for your leader early on, he\'s gonna get targetted a whole lot on the grounds of killing such a costly model.

Baby sit him carefully till he advances some. and get some good skills under him too to keep him alive, as he\'ll be deadly otherwise.

Hi Wraithlord im just about to start running an Necromunda campaign at my local wargames club (pax exterminatus) and this is my gang
leader-Melta gun-215
heavy-heavy stubber-180
heavy-heavy stubber-180
ganger-lasgun-75
ganger-lasgun-75
ganger-lasgun-75
ganger-shotgun-70
juve-bolt pistol-45
juve-bolt psitol-45
juve-las pistol-40
i would have juve meatshields for my leader and 2 heavys, as my leader plus ganger with shotgun and 3 gangers with lasguns sweep round my opposition to funnel them into my stubbers. like wraithlord i can think of no names.
