What is the story for Necromunda and just how many gangs are there?

I think there is no limit to the number of different gangs in Necromunda.

Necromunda is basically where the planet is a colony world where people are packed into miles high spires called hives, each housing a country\'s worth of people. The Higher up the spire you go the better the quality of life. Similarly the lower you go the worse it gets. The base of the hives are impenetrable and the layers just above are called the underhive. This is where the game takes place. Its a place akin to the wild west meets \'The Warriors\' where turf is fought over and gang wars fought by people who have never seen daylight.

my necromunda campaign is coming along very nicely!

we have 6 gangs (one of each type!) and its turning out to be a hell of a lot more fun than we remember!

the amount of fun it is puts 40k to shame! I think its to do with the personalities that appear, like the orlick gunfighter with 2 pistols who just happened to get randomly picked for a gunfight scenario and blew the crap out of the cawdors . . .

and the delaque leader who is protected by a telekenetic psycher with a force field. Jean Claude Van Saar of the Van Saar\'s is making a name for himself . . .

and lets not frget the Gamblers, a goliath gang that gambled too far and lost five gangers to the righteous fury of the redemptive cawdor . . .

you just get so much character in the games its unbeleivable!

Ah, Necromunda!

Arguably the coolest game GW have ever made! I loved it so much! I still have it somewhere with my 16 girl Escher gang (unbeaten in 40ish games and a rating of over 6000!)

The basic premise in the replys is about right but there is an infinite number of gangs! There are the 6 main houses in spire primus then the rest of the spires, god only knows how many though! But in 2nd edition there used to be an Imperial Guard regiment from Necromunda called the Spiders, and they were all supposed to be recruited from a single gang!

Where has this question come from? I think I know almost everything about this game, I was our campaign master for a few years for a local club. If you give me an idea what this is about then I can tailor my answer rather than waxing lyrical for days!

yeah there were six main houses, then there were the outlanders, who were the spyreres from up-hive, and ratskins, skavvies and redemptionists from down-hive.

6000 rating gang! thats just rediculous lol. we are trying to keep our campaign balanced with no gangs able to fight each other if the difference is more than 300 (unless the lower gang challenges)

tell you what though necromunda will never be anywhere near gorkamorka!

Nah necromunda was cooler than gorkamorka. The terrain in necromunda was cooler too, the 3 dimensional aspect was awesome. But I will say that the racing gangs in Gorkamorka were a really good thing. There\'s nothing quite like playing chicken in an Ork buggy with a ruddy great battering ram and a big ball and chain swinging around...

For me Necromunda was cooler. I played against my mates 4000 gang rated delaques with a new spyrer team (Mostly malcadons, I love those guys) and utterly demolished him in the first game, and killed his uber experienced heavy with the autocannon on the injury table removing 400 points from his gang rating. It was the most satisfying revenge I ever had!

necromunda and gorkamorka are both fun. I think necromunda is good because you get characters easier, them being all human and such. With the orks they are mostly all the same - crazy!

there was nothing like the look on my oppnents face when one of my traks drove up and dropped that robo-ork speical character off the back!

i wouldnt like to guess which one is best, i do like the dense scenery for necromunda, but i liked the fact that gorkamorka was very unpredicable!

hmm, well I never played Gorka Morka, but Necromunda was probably the 2nd best game GW ever made, and the best of the 40k based games. I loved the way every Gang member had a personality, and I remember how gutted I was when my first ganger died! But also how chuffed I was mhen my sniper managed to find a one-in-a-million bolter whilst out shopping! or my inventor managed to create a one-in-a-million flamer! and I had a ganger with infiltrate, leap and specialist! Now that is a horrible combination!

damn I miss that game!

I just bought an ink cart and I\'ve just printed the full 120 page rulebook for necromunda...

I\'m so excited I\'m almost dribbling...

I should add that I bought the Lexmark cartridge from a shop that was closing down for only ?3! Bargain.

Man I love Necromunda. I\'d go out and get more card and do another set of scenery right now for it if I could survive what the missus would do to me if I dared...

i got a load of high density polystyrene eggs for my scenery project and all i got off my girlfriend was \'what the hell are those things!\'
