Ok guys, had my first game against a ravenwing army last night, and I\'ve got to say, it was not pretty! ok, the cards were stacked heavily against me by the fact that we were playing an omega level recon, so we had the escalation rules to contend with! But then when he got the first turn he had almost half my infantry wiped out by the end of turn 1 before I even got the chance to shoot! By the time I was rolling for my reserves on turn 2 I only had a squad of kroot left.

from then on my battlesuits and tanks were playing catchup. but once his landspeeders and master of the ravenwing showed up it was all over bar the singing of the fat lady. At the end I only had my poor devilfish left, everything else was gone!

so that\'s it my tale of woe against ravenwing, now all I need to do is come up with some kind of counter tactic to an army that can have my entire firing line engaged in combat by the end of their first turn...:S :pinch: :(

I\'d heard they were nasty, but not even getting a chance to shoot :S So unless you get the first turn you\'re already fighting an uphill battle against these guys, I\'d almost say throw some kroot in their to slow them down. Not quite sure or that would really help though, Ravenwing is just so damn fast and if I remember correctly they also have teleport markers on those bike so they can call in deathwing terminators as well:blink:

The other problem is that if you are playing an escalation game all the bikes and attack bikes have the scout USR, so they all get to start on the board! In a game like recon where your intention is to get into the opponents deployment zone, I was stuffed from the moment we came up with a omega game!

I played a good game against dark angels yesterday. It was Rescue (2000pts) with just the basic game type. But still you had to have everything apaprt from your troops in reserve. He had a master of deathwing and 3 squads of terminators so he had 2 tac squads and the terms on at the start as opposed to my 2 tac squads (one in a rhino). it didnt help that he found the correct marker first time at the top of a building with a squad of terminators. But... he sat 2 squads of terminators in that building and i just had to charge evreything towards it. I was helped out by most of my stuff coming in 2nd or 3rd turn but it was a great game. I gave him some viscious shooting and his terminators jumped off the building and tried to run away but in the 5th turn i cauht up with him and the outcome was a lot of dead deathwing. i won by holding the objective marker in the last turn.

Also it was my first game using the landspeeder. These things are really good, only being able to glancing hit it makes it really survivable... i need another now.

What I totally HATE about Master of the Ravenwing is that his Speeder is 14/14/10!!!!! And a skimmer!!!!! Theoretically it is more survivable than a Land Raider, if you ask me! Added to the fact that he supports lots of gunz, taking the Jetbike instead would be totally useless.

12/11/10 would have been better for the stats...

Wow that sounds brutal. The only way to beat the ravenwing in those such game is to deploy yourself on the edge of the border so that you can actually gain a turn of shooting IMO. Also get some gun drons unless you don;t already have some because they can be the speed bump instead of your tau firewarriors!

sadly in a game with the escalation rules you can only deploy your scouts and infantry, jet pack infantry you can\'t use! so I only got to start with my pathfinders (without tank) my fire warriors, my sniper team and my broad sides. following a round of shooting from the entire ravenwing army in rapid fire and multi melta range There wasn\'t enough of my army left to change the course of the battle.

I know the Ravenwing list is powerful but I didnt think it had enough firepower to out shoot Tau.
He must have loaded up on the ol\' assault cannons and such like!

The problem wasn\'t that he out shot my army, the problem was that he out shot my infantry before my suits and tanks showed up. then the speeders showed up to finish me off. 15 twin-linked bolters on bikes can produce a hellish amount of fire power, and when you then add in that he can rapid fire then charge because they\'re on bikes I was in deep!

still got all his attack bikes and all but one squad of bikers by the end of the game though!

gotta love that ion cannon! if you\'re going up against ravenwing, don\'t leave home without it!

Maybe Sniper Drones and Rail Rifles would work. You deploy on the table, and marines hate Rail Weaponry:evil:

(plus it has the word \"rail\" in it, adding +2 to the coolness factorof your army).

I have had the luck of playing the DA only once with my Tau, it was an objective mission, of course it was in the middle of the table, and by the end of turn 1, the ravenwing had secured the objective with their damn scout move. But I had some buildings nearby, so i piled all my Fire Warriors into the buildings. It worked, i shot down most of the bikes, and by the time the ol master of the ravenwing showed up, my crisis suits and my tanks did also. They, and the few surviving Kroot pushed forward, taking out most of the remainder of the bikes, although losing the Kroot. When the tanks had caused the bikes to fall back behind a building, one my fire warrior squads with 9 men left, came down. As i expected the bugger came around and assaulted me. My entire fire warrior team was wiped out, but it was worth it. I got them in range of both of the other teams. I took out all of the bikes in the zone. With a turn to go I had 2 Crisis suits a Hammerhead, and two squads of Fire Warriors. They had a squad of bikes an attack bike and the ol Master. On that turn I successfully secured the objective, and got the fire warriors in range for rapid fire, and I took out the Master of The Ravenwing, and the attack bike. At the end of the battle the Tau were victorious, and the Ravenwing had lost a great deal of bikes. (The Landspeeders were the first to get killed by the Hammerhead, and Crisis suits.)
