Following the example of some of our other 40k fanatics I\'ll also be starting a WIPpost. And in the process I\'ll also remove some of my old posts and integrate their stuff into this 1 post.

Hephesto

But on to the sweet stuff;

BUILDING A PRE-HERESY TERMINATOR
REQUIREMENTS
- a plastic terminator
- pair of scissors
- cardboard, any kind of cerealbox should do
- ruler
- pencil
- glue, preferably superglue
- some greenstuff
- modelling tool, I use small cocktailsticks
- hobby knife
- a paintbrush
- some time and imagination

STEP 1
Start by putting together your terminator\'s chest and put his arms in the desired position.
Once the hobbyglue has dried carefully cut of a small section of the shoulderpadjoint on the body. Creating a more round shape were your new shoulderpad will come.
step 1 (http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f105/hephesto555666/building%20stuff/step1.jpg)

STEP 2
Grab yourself a cerealbox that has some thin cardboard. And draw out the following shapes, each shoulderpad will need 1 set of these;
step 2 (http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f105/hephesto555666/building%20stuff/step2.jpg)
Size 1; 7 x 17 mm
Size 2; 7 x 19 mm
Size 3; 6 x 15 mm

STEP 3
After cutting out these shapes you\'ll need to give them the right form. This can be done fairly easy, but is essential especially for the large shoulderpiece.
Take a brush and lightly moisten the bottom of piece 1. Now use the shaft of the brush as a mold and while holding down one side of figure 1 slowly bend it over the brush.
step 3 (http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f105/hephesto555666/building%20stuff/step3.jpg)
Slowly make it smaller as to continue down to the narrow end of the brushshaft. This methode will create a nice round shape without creating foldlines. Now testfit piece 1 and glue its side to the body of the terminator and hold it in place until it dries.
step 3b (http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f105/hephesto555666/building%20stuff/step3b.jpg)

STEP 4
This is the part where that creativity really comes in handy. You can now use piece 2 to make the trim for the shoulder pad, so go wild and come up with some cool designs. Once your piece is ready, has been moisted as in step 3 and has been testfitted gently glue 1 end perfectly in place before glueing it entirely in place.
step 4 (http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f105/hephesto555666/building%20stuff/step4.jpg)
This way you\'ll get everything nice and straight. Note; I misdrew the shape so thats why it doesn\'t fit prfectly :P

STEP 5
You can now attach piece 3, in the same manner as the other pieces, underneat the rest of the shoulderpad.
step 5 (http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f105/hephesto555666/building%20stuff/step5.jpg)
If necessary give parts 1 and 2 a bit of a bend.

STEP 6
Detailing, you can now use a tiny roll of greenstuff and your modelling tool of preference to smoothen the edge of the pad. And of course to add tiny rivets.
step 6 (http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f105/hephesto555666/building%20stuff/step6.jpg)
A few licks of paint and you\'ll have yourself some unique looking terminators. http://www.astronomican.com/components/com_joomlaboard/uploaded/images/wolf_guard_terminator-e6cee08d9056cf711ba042abc4e38f9a.JPG

These guys are to go with my wordbearers.

Agreed, your work is phenomenal! Loving the daemonic unit...especially the stands and benches, as for colours go for a murky brown/green? A sort of mottled wood effect maybe?

Anything that looks left out in the rain/mossy/rotted wood wise will work really well.

So find a bit of old rotty wood for reference and your off...

Hephesto
17-12-2006, 02:16 PM
Well, I\'m slowly, very slowly making replacement daemons for my wordbearers. I\'m trying to make seller daemons as \'counts as-daemons\'. All because I have this insane idea to eventually get an army for each of the major chaos legion.

I wanted to make a swarm of small, lesser daemons to replace the nurglings. However halfway through the 2nd base things started to get away from me. So now its turning into my \'court of chaos\'-project. They\'ll still count as nurgling eventhough some of them will be way to big (especially the judge/chamberlain).

If I get the painting part right they should turn out great, and I think I can say without to much doubt totally unique to.

I\'ve already finished the first replacement unit, my umbras (though little buggers to get a decent photo). Got inspired by their artpiece in xenology;

Time for a change, so I thought I\'d paint up some orks. Just for fun and maybe to add to those speed freaks that have been sitting unpainted on my desk for months now.

Mmmmhhh, might have to do one of those new years resolution. \'I\'ll paint a minimum of 1 mini a week\'-thing. I\'d like to say I\'ll be painting a 5 or even a squad a week, but I\'d better stay realistic:P http://www.astronomican.com/components/com_joomlaboard/uploaded/images/100_2963.JPG

I know its not 40K, but I kind of got suckered into joining in a warhammer fantasy contest. So I\'ll also be working on the following;
- goblin necromancer(a disaster waiting to happen)
- beastman foe-render
- morheim possessed darksoul, absolutely love
this model.
- while I\'m doing some fantasy I\'ll also update my chimaerat.

Looks like I\'ll be busy the next couple of weeks;
- fantasy stuff
- ork big mek
- write that piece of fiction I promised to redmeer dyo.
- wordbearers, exams, research project etc....

Good thing I decided to also take up a new years resultion of painting a minimum of 3 figures a week.:P http://www.astronomican.com/components/com_joomlaboard/uploaded/images/wip1.JPG

Well time for another small update before I get thoe few hours of much needed rest.

Just 3 more fantasy model to go before I can get back to 40K. Although I\'m really enjoying myself with these as well.

The goblin necromancer is almost done, after 4 years of not painting orks this little guy was good practise for the big mek and retinue.

I\'m very pleased with how the darksoul is coming along, I experimented with a purple shade to the skin to get that possessed effect. Might have to dig up those other possessed models I have around some where.

And finally the assembled LOTR giant spider, now all I need to do is get an idea about its colour. Time to start looking on google. http://www.astronomican.com/components/com_joomlaboard/uploaded/images/various1.JPG

Thanks Knight, think I\'ll try something similiar on a few genestealer cultists I found yesterday.

Buddy on mine more or less stopped gw about half a year ago (the missses was tired of having all those toy soldiers around) and he gave me two moving boxes full of stuff. Still busy going through them, looks like I\'ll be busy he next couple of years. So far I\'ve found;

- 8 inquisitor figures
- some classic stuff (including genestealers, old leman russ, really old bloodletters and a classic chaos dreadnought)
- 3 mordheim warband boxes
- new necromunda redemptionists
- 4 battle forces (chaos, orks, dark eldar)
- dark eldar adrubael vect
- some old fantasy stuff, hobgoblins!

02-01-2007, 12:55 AM
I finally got my good camara back, so no more crummy pics that seem to ignore every highlight or shading effort.

But on to business, I just finished another fantasy mini; A Beastman foe render, I\'m rather pleased with how he turned out. Eventhough I like gw\'s beastman scheme I wanted to make this one darker, more sinister. Just a shame the base looks like a light up christmas tree on the photo:P

Ah well, can\'t have everything. Now its on to
the last non-40K mini, the LOTR giant spider. http://www.astronomican.com/components/com_joomlaboard/uploaded/images/foe_render.JPG

It\'s an oiler squig, a mobile lubrication :) The big red one is the newer version.

The previous ork codex had a bunch of strange squig wargear like buzzer squig stikkbombz and a sniffer squig. In that edition the ork still had ogryn mercenaries, disciplined stormboyz and an insane range of big gunz.

try mixing in a little purple in with the green to get a darker shade and then wash the shadows(not the whole area, just shadows)), the added contrast will make him look that much better

its not very time consuming and its very rewarding, it will make your model look much better

you need brighter, and darker shades

Looks like father Nurgle\'s blessings have really gripped me after making that death guard icon bearer.

So I\'m going to make some more of them and add some good old plaguebearers. After going through my bitz box (well room would be a more appropriate name) I found the mordheim minis my friend Stefan gave to me a while back.

As a result I\'m going to use the carnival of chaos as plaguebearers. But I\'m a bit uncertain about their colours, since most of them wear some sort of cloths. good thing you said climate change and not global warming or i would of simply reminded you it was -39 last week, and its been consistently -20s for awhile now(here in the capital of canada)

as to colour scheme, browns, greens and beiges are usually the colours, purples are nice as well

if you do green, mix scorched brown and dark angels together, and make sure its a browny green, this will make them look a bit raggier

Nearly have the first 2 plaguebearers done, did some testpieces but couldn\'t find a scheme I really like. Except for the original carnaval scheme, so I just went with that and made it a bit darker. Unfortunately it just doesn\'t look all that death guard any more so I was rather disappointed until I put them next to the few wordbearers I\'ve managed to get done. Fits great, in my opinion anyway ;) sSorry about the somewhat dark picture.

So fair thy well to the death guard for now and back to the wordbearers. So planned for this week are those carnaval plaguebearers, some more work on the \'bulkier defiler\'-test and maybe even some more work on chaos marines and the court of chaos(finally ;)).

As some of you might remember I\'m replacing all the normal daemons with either other models or complete conversions. So far I have or I\'m working on;
- nurglings - court of chaos (wip)
- daemonettes - umbra\'s (done)
- bloodletter - swordbearers (still concept/wip)
- plaguebearers - the carnaval (mordheim models)
- flamers - ???

I\'m still in desperate need of ideas for some kind of daemonic critter or conversion to replace the flamers, any thought? http://www.astronomican.com/components/com_joomlaboard/uploaded/images/carnival_of_chaos.JPG

One of my favorite models, he from the mordheim range. He\'s part of the very amusing carnival of chaos, a circus of sorts that travels the lands surrounding mordheim performing their macabre plays. Their gnomes, jesters and strongmen luring in the unwary countryfolk, only to reveil their true face and purpose at the end of their performance.

Their jest and uncanningly realistic daemon customes a mere facade, their performance no more than a daemonic summoning in honorance of father nurgle and his gifts of death and pestilence upon the old world.

Very cool! Loads of character and really well painted... :)

One thing I would say (sorry!) is that I don\'t like the grey bases... They seem to \'bleach\' the colour out from the minis... Don\'t seem to go well with the red/yellow... That\'s a personal preference I suppose, but I\'d prefer them brown...

Well done on a completely individual unit though... great work!

CC.

The picture doesn\'t help much either ;)

I\'m planning to build a scenic base for the entire army, using cities of death materials. The idea was something like a ruined temple, that\'s why I\'m going with the dark grey bases.

Normally speaking I would have gone for some kind or (dark) brown, but with this grey, when put on a cityfight piece of scenery the bases almost seem to disappear.

Ah well on to the next unit, or no wait I said I would enter the competitions. Mmmhh, a dead mini and a \'huge\' battlediorama. I have a few ideas for the dead mini, although I doubt if it works it would still count as a normal entry and more like a diorama

Time will tell! I\'d better first try if I can even get the idea to work:lol:

After 2-3 weeks of having no free time what so ever, except for getting sick, I finally managed to get some
building time in on another mini. A guard veteran to serve as 1 of Inquisitor Gideon Lorr\'s bodyguard.

He\'s still a WIP, but he\'s turning out suprisingly good. Now to find some time to finish him, build 2 other
unique looking vets and paint up the units ;)

Time for a few more pics, I\'ve been working hard on the
other 2 veteran guardsman to accompany Lorr. Here\'s a
new picture of the last veteran, still very wip and
still need quite a bit of work, but I\'m very pleased
with how he\'s turning out. The \'mutant guardsman\' is
also very WIP, but this is the general idea/post
I\'m going for with this guy and his position in the
diorama;

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f105/hephesto555666/40k/1-4.jpg

And secondly a vostroyan veteran made from the very
cool vostroyan sniper that can out around the Medusa
V campaign. I couldn\'t resist buying this model, but
it has been sitting idle on a shelf ever since. But
no longer, a bit of slice \'n dice and 1 wip veteran
coming up. The cloack still needs quite a bit of
work, but at least it is starting to look smooth
right now. Still find it very strange that a citycamo
sniper would have a camocloack that also has leaves
on it

Sorry, completely missed this question :S

Since I only had a catachan battleforce around and my
local store didn;t have any cadians around I figured I
would just have to make due with what I had around.

So here goes;

The torso, legs and the two arms are from your basic
catachan jungle fighter. The head is that of a sentinel driver, really liked the look. The shotgun
is from a necromunda weaponsprue, while the left
hand is a mordheim piece...I think.

Add quite a few lumps of green and brown stuff, some
blood, sweat and tears and voila...1 guardsman veteran
with an unexpected, yet very satisfying Elyssian feel.

You may have already planned for this, but I think that the waterway under that bridge could have a mutie floating dead in it from the combat. It would give you a chance to use some water effects stuff, and to cut a mutie in half vertically from the side angle (Why would we not want to do that?) to give a sense of depth to the water. It\'ll also add to the casualty count to further resemble how hard the main unit is. Although if you do decide to go for water, then don\'t use GW own water effects as it\'s nowhere near as good as resin water efects that you can get from model railway shops, and the GW own stuff will spoil the thing.

As for the WIP itself, I have decided I hate you and I am going to dock all of your Karma.

Just kidding. :D

I\'m really inspired by the thing and I may have to have a go myself now. Tell me, what did you use to make the base holes in the model? They\'re really well defined, I\'d like to know how you did it.

Indra wrote:

That is actually a great idea, I was kind stuck of for ideas
as I wanted to put a few more muties in there without it
getting to crowded. I was planning to just use some modpodge,
as glue filler thingy for water texture. Although I could
experiment a bit with some of the water effect I got when I
was last in Germany. The train/hobby stores there are
absolutely amazing!

I cut the rough base from foamcard, just cutting out a square
the size of a normal base. This because it seems nearly
impossible to cut anything round from foamcard. If necessary
(if your foamcard would be a bit softer), you can the holes
slightly bigger and reinforce the side of the whole.

I then used brown stuff, a resinbased modelling putty to
model the round shapes. Just using a wet finger and the
roundness of your nail you can failry easily created very
effect and clean curves. After that it is just a matter of
using a test base with an old heavy figure glued to it and
just stick it in their and move it around. That way you can
see if the base will fit and if necessary you can turn it
around a bit to mark the putty that still needs to be removed.
Finally I\'m also adding an extra circle of thin plasticard to
the bottom of the holes as my foamcard was just a bit to high
to work with the normal height of the GW base.

Well I hope that helped a bit, what kind of diorama were you
planning to put together?

I know what you mean, I\'m also very impatient to see it finish. I\'ve got a small horde of nids awaiting my
attention, this thing is just taking up quite a bit of time. Combine that with me being in a lazy mood the last

If everything works out I should have the diorama build finished by the end of the week, that will give me the

Still you guys are right, work could and probably should have been a lott closer to completion by now. On the positive side my first experiment with railroad water effect turned out rather good. Finally, finally had some free time today and yesterday so I managed to smite down a challenge I got from a mate a few days ago. He\'s getting back into bfg and he asked/challenged me to come up with some cool looking piece of scenery to go with his chaos/renegade fleet.

I still need to make a few more asteroid bases and maybe a piece of destroyed ship, but this is what I came up with so far;

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f105/hephesto555666/40k/renegadehiddenasteroidbase.jpg

It is basically a hidden renegade base/fuelling station tucked away in an asteroid field to avoid detection by imperial forces. Pretty happy with how it turned out, especially with the somewhat cartoony colourscheme which really fits with michael\'s finished chaos cruisers.

Ah just 3-4 more weeks of madness/everyday work life crap and then I can finally get back to my gideon lorr diorama as well as my impending tyranid invasion :)

That is what has kept me from good all crazy with a space fleet, the only plastics in the whole range are the 8 cruisers from the starter set. Which are basically the same cruiser, but you can assemble/arm them in different ways. Shame really, though I do have to admit that the pewter ships are all very good.

Cheers, and sorry again!

No problem mate, my mistake. I\'d completely forgotten about the forum size restrictions. I\'ll just have to put together a new pic somewhere tonight.

I also just happened to stumble across to pics of the sprues of the soon to be released WHF empire wizards and flagellants. Loads of cool bits on those sprues, lotts of conversion potential. Something tells me we\'ll be seeing lotts of chaos on future chaos minis as well as many a nurlge lord with a nice big scythe ;)

Those sprues look lovely, it doesnt get better than flaming swords, great find Hephesto.

Although many BFG ships share similar hulls they are still worth buying, but need more support from the GW.

i really like your ship Hephesto, and i look forward to seeing more ships later on.

Thanks mate, I\'m planning to finish converting my 4 plastic cruisers, build a few more asteroids and wreckage scenery pieces. And eventually I\'ll probably buy a few boosters....yet another trip along the slippery slopes of specialist games. Always liked those necrons....and might convert/build my own ships to go with my tyranid fleet. I have yet to see a kraken ;)

I totally agree that it is a shame that gw hardly gives and support or publicity to specialist games. They have excellent stuff, both for the expert gamer and the casaul gamer who just wants to try out something else. Really liked the last specialist games realese round which featured very cool stuff, namely the warmaster araby army (http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=List_Models&code=301545&orignav=300808 ) and epic chaos forces (http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99120302001&orignav=30 0808)

Well it is almost time to start my vacation and the various Wh projects that will occupy most of my freetime the coming month and a half. And since that has been almost a month since I\'ve painted a mini (save for the asteroidbase) I figured I\'d best paint up something else before I embark on the voyage of trying to figure out a nice wood elf colourscheme. So here\'s a quick, rather poor pic of my latest word bearer WIP, should have him/it finished this weekend and then it is on to ravenous Tyranid and forest stalking Wood Elves ;)

 Really feels like that to me as well, damned university and their new examschedule. I\'ve been at this for 7-8 weeks and I\'ve really, really had it with this crap. Just 28 more hours and I\'ll finally be able to get some rest....finally more than 4-5 hours sleep a day :P

So you guys can expect me a lott more stuff from me the coming weeks ;)

Ah time for another mini, a real classic this time. Captain Cortez of the Crimson Fists. Always loved this model and I finally got around to painting it. One thing I can definitely say is that midnight blue is one hell of a strange colour. When painted on all goes well, 15 minutes later it starts turning purple and if you highlight it it real goes berserk. Still after a layer of blue inkt, a highlight with a mixture of midnight blue and regal blue it looks pretty good. Bit to dark to see on the pic, but the blue really has a nice sinister tone to it. Also decided to do some different with the shoulderbage instead of the traditional gold. No worries haven\'t completelly lost my mind by thinking I\'ve mastered NMM gold. Just tried to do something different, something down the lines of ivory.

Well it seems it is time to move on to my Wood Elves now, but in between I\'ll get some work done on the Gideon Lorr diorama. So by the end of the month I should have quite a bit of work done on both projects ;)

i can see why they withdrew that paticular line of model, it does look very rogue trader with its proportions.

Nice work Heph,
when can we see some wood elves?

Thanks H, it does indeed have that rogue trader feel to it.

With a bit of luck I should have a full unit of scouts converted by the end of the week. If I can keep my stomache under controle that is.....damn weather, damn flu:sick: Ah well, at least I managed to catch up on some dvd\'s this weekend, between blowing chunks that is:sick:

And I totally have to agree with you on Pan\'s Labyrinth, amazing movie:laugh:

Good point, haven\'t even seen Vash over there for a few eeks now. Looks like me has gone MIA, nothing a PM here and there can\'t cure. Might even interest him in joining a Tale of X Gamers with his Tzeentch chaos horde ;)

Time for another Heresy Online testmini update..and then diligently back to the wood of Loren ;)

Thinking this one might be a winner, pretty unique scheme, not to difficult and work with the arm scheme (is a fluff thing):

Nice one. Love the helmet too. And with the arm; is it anything to do with the Sons of Malice or Malal?

Very perceptive there TerribleTrygon, it is indeed linked to Mallal, who plays a big part in the legion\'s fluff. I\'ll give a full link once all the stuff is done, will be a while though. But it is turning into quite a fun project.

Actually there may well be dozens of weaker Chaos Gods out there. There is a Chaos god for every emotion and concept after all, negative emotion and concept that is.

Actually we came up with another Chaos God over the weekend. Ronnie, the Chaos God of Comfort. His pillow marines are some of the most subversive in existence, using their feather cannons and bed mines to subvert most foes away from their former masters. Currently his worshippers are negotiating with the tau that massage chairs and massage fittings for terminator armour and crisis suits are all for the Greater Good.

I think this one has potential.
