I know there have been one or two threads in the topic already but now they've actually been launched I thought I'd post a thread to discuss people's thoughts on the paints and experiences (reviews) having used them.
I haven't used them myself yet but have read through the whole WD spiel and quite a bit online by people who have.
Personally I'm pretty intrigued by the new lines - especially the metallics and 'Shades'. Apparently they are completely new formulas so even the 'Layer' range are indeed new and there are no exact like-for-like matches with the previous line. I know this will be a pain for some people but let's face it, things move on. Colour trends change and I think it's a good thing GW are keeping things fresh.
It does seem as though the different ranges are designed to make easier the techniques we painters have developed ourselves over the years - again not a bad thing as long as they work well and do that job.
So yeah, what do you guys think and what are your experiences having actually used the different ranges?

Those glazes look brilliant - I mean, in the example in WD, the yellow on the Iyanden Eldar was tabletop ready when the glaze was applied over the white. I am going to be doing an Epic Salamanders army (as in the game, not the verb) later this year, and it seems like a really easy way to quickly paint nice looking green.
I am really excited about the texture paints though. I specifically didn't PVA sand to the bases of my Saxons because I saw these were coming out and wanted to use them. Bring on next Saturday, I say!

You mean the shades? It was a yellow shade (wash) over white on the Eldar. It did look good but it's nothing particularly new (me and hwd do our Ork skin in a similar way, and Nomad uses washes in that way). Although I am interested to see if the new formula makes the washes behave more predictably.
The glazes of course are new (ready made ones from Citadel anyway). I use 'home made' glazes, mostly on my BA red armour. I thin red ink about 1:10 with water and apply several coats allowing each to dry before the next. It brightens and intensifies the colour. Consadine uses metallic glazes to great effect for highlighting. I'm not sure exactly what goes into these Citadel ones (hopefully not just 1:10 paint and water – that would be a rip off! But I'm interested to see how they perform.
The texture bases I wasn't too excited about. If they do the same thing as PVA and sand then £2.30 for 12ml is a monumental rip off! But then I am lazy and like saving time so... we'll see ;)

Yes, I completely mean the shades XD Not quite sure why I said glazes!
I didn't think they had done a yellow wash before though? Also, the white base-paint looks interesting.
I think it's PVA, sand and paint, but I certainly see your point XD I want to use it for those self same reasons! XD

Yep the yellow one is new - all the colours are!
I wonder how many bases you can do with the 12ml pot of texture paint?
One thing that's interesting is the colours. In my experience how colours blend is one of the trickiest and most important things of a successful paint job. Apparently in the new line they've grouped the colours to blend really nicely without having to do intermediate mixes - that sounds like a worthwhile timesaver...

I'll let you know how many it does :)
I've never really done much mixing - when I have, it has always been a bit 'meh', so I guess that's very good news for me. I'd be curious to hear what the golden demon painters who aren't on the GW payroll have to say about the paints.

Yeah I'm interested to get some views from actual use. Citadel paints have always been good, just rubbish packaging. And pricing

I'm with you Luther...my best friend got a bit of a demo on the new paints at his local GW, and he seemed a bit excited about them. He then bought up a bunch of Devlan, and a few other pots of the old line "just in case". I think I need to do a bit of haunting at my LFGS...one of the staff is quite an awesome painter, and we've taken to talking about techniques/paints/airbrushing/powders every time I'm in. I'll have him be my "guinea pig"...
Unfortunately, atm, I have a decent stockpile of paints...and until I hear something along the lines of "this is the next Devlan Mud!", I'll have no reason to pick up the new line for some time.

I heard today that the new paint line might have been related to a new paint supplier... it's not Vallejo, is it?
This is interesting:

And interesting video for sure there. I must say I'm feeling better now that a few months ago I started my gradual switch from GW paint to Vallejo paints.

I'm also a bit confused by the Glazes. Traditional glazes (i.e. paints heavily thinned with water) are normally used to build up subtle, smooth highlights. But these seem to be more like shading washes. The example in White Dwarf showed a chaos shield glazed with the green, and it looked identical to one having been given a coat of Thraka Green to me..?

They've changed the name for marketing effect ;)

But they have 'Shades' which replace the washes (which are the same as I understand it but with more colours). But then there are 'Glazes' too which don't seem to do what the name suggests..?

Played around with a few new layers, base and Nuln Oil Shade, all seem to be really nice and easy to work with, especially Ceramic White base!

I have only bought the Ceramite white after testing it, and it's pretty good. I didn't like the Layer range so far... I have yet to try the glazes, but I see them as watered down washes for dummies -cough, more money for less substance-

I'm suprised that in addition to being able to buy the single pots that GW haven't sold them in sets as they did with the Foundation and Washes. Maybe that is to come.
I rather like the dry paint i have used (Skink Blue) so far.

I agree, once you are used to the paint, the drybrushing is just so easy. In general, I'm pretty happy with the new paints. I tested out a whole bunch of them a while back doing the shields on my Saxons and I have to say I am happy with them :)

Anyone tried the glazes? They're are the only ones I don't get...

So what's the general opinion, should I go for the new range or change to Vallejo while I have the chance?

I'm very happy with the new paint range, can't comment on Vallejo

Personally, being a "paint by color/what I think will work", rather than a "paint by numbers" guy (which to me seems how the new GW range is formatted)...I use both! Or really, any color I like the looks of. I have a small experience with the new GW line (still burning off all the pots I have), but the range looks promising and I look to take advantage of it. Simultaneously, I've been picking up a number of Vallejo colors, and enjoy them immensely (especially when using my airbrush...dropper bottles FTW :skrall: ).
I don't see it as an "either/or" situation, we're spoiled for choice.. ;)

Alright I'll give them both a shot then.
PS: You're profile picture is BOB ROSS! Chillest guy I've ever seen paint, I approve of this decision. :D

Ive been switching slowly to Vallejo. Ive discovered the wonders of the wet palet and the droppers that vallejo use are great for that. Plus you get a bit more for a bit less $$. Dont get me wrong, Ive heard some of the new colors are fantastic, and Ill probly pick up a few here and there, but it would be on an as needed basis.

Sometimes I mutter to myself "happy little Necron", or "happy little Ork", when I paint. I used to watch him with my Mom growing up...I've got mad props for the Ross...and who doesn't dig an afro?
