I am wondering who is planning on buying the Dreadfleet when it is released in a few days. I know it's most likely a redo of Man O' War but this looks really cool. Thanks for filling out my poll.

It's a no for me, it looks nice but is quite expensive I think. With the uncertainty of any follow up or support, I'm just not so keen on it, also I prefer futuristic styles and as the Battlefeild Gothic rules are free in the GW specalist games bit I'll look into that first for a fleet based game I think. But I'm sure lots of people will buy it as an investment and leave it rapped up for the future

I never played Man O War before, so will probably pass. If I could get soem example/ trial games in I might change my mind.

Yes, by accident. Although I do like it I wasn't planning on getting it at all (comnbination of moving away from GW stuff, fairly high cost, no use for models beyond the game itself and up and until a couple of days ago zero information on the actual gamesystem), however I bought a game for a friend of mine a few months ago and now he's insisting on returning the favour with a copy of Dreadfleet.......andI'm not going to say no to those cool minis.

I've done a wee write-up of the more specific reasoning behind my views on the game so far on my blog (link (http://hephsforge.blogspot.com/2011/09/pirates-life-for-me.html)) and I'm going to use this unique opportunity to do quite a bit more Dreadfleet coverage once we get our hands on the actual boxed set!

So I've voted yes on this one and, by the look of things, I'm the only one so far

I voted no....

I already have Man O War and all its supplements and Dystopian Wars.

So for me 70 is really too rich for a stand alone one off game.

two words.... Uncharted seas. Does it better, cheaper and with real company support

&%$#**$%# G *&%$#@@# W!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here in Australia it is freaking $190! 70 pounds equates to abou 110ish, and that's generous. An extra $80 (50 pounds) for living in Aus.

If it was only 110 I might buy it.

It seems that a lot of people I speak to are saying if it was only 60 or 50 I would buy it.

Personally if it was say 50 -55 then I would buy it, however 70 crosses that mental barrier I have for games.

I can afford it but I cant justify it.

Models are quite nice but do you really want to buy something that has no support beyond the initial burst. I look and then I think of all the other stuff I can get for 70 and wander off. Thats a bad thing a few years ago when prices were realistic I would have just bought it. My birthday is soon but I cant even justify the outlay as a present.

Er. Nope. I think that it is a bit of a waste. It looks really cool, but if I was just looking for a cool looking game, I could go to Toys R Us and spend a lot less cash. They could have used these resources to release a speciality games box, like Necromunda or Mordheim or even BFG. The work is already done. They keep missing the point. These game in a box things should be going into mass market releases that will shed some light onto the main game universes. Space Hulk was an excellent idea, much of it was able to be pulled from the box directly into 40K. A one off release that is not compatible with anything else that GW releases doesn't sit well with the fans of the game, and it doesn't bring more people into the hobby proper.

I actually won 80 on the lottery on the friday after/of (can't remember when it came out) and even then I still couldn't justify it to myself... and I LOVE pirates!

I'm in agreement that the money spent on releasing the game could have been spent on a release of a specialist game like Gorkamorka. As Laz says, the work is already done and it's a great way to get people either into the main hobby, or to keep those that are loosing faith with GW happy for a while till they get their act together.

Well popped into my GW yesterday on the launch day (Saturday) and saw hordes of grots under the age of 12 packing the shop. I was passing and wanted to nosy at the game.

Looked at the models as I said they are sweet. Felt the sea mat, not impressed with that one thin and not altoghther what I expected, but the terrain is nice.

It did look like to me that the 30 or so boxes they had stacked up for sale everywhere in the shop means that it is less popular than Space Hulk. That day you couldnt actually buy one after 11am thats sold out in Dundee in two hours. This was 3 in the afternoon and they seemed to have plently in the shop.

So it will be interesting if they have any left on Monday as I pass the shop on my way back from work.

I thought I was going to be hipster cool by voting 'No' in the poll. so much for that ;)

I have to agree, it's an unexpected, not particularly demanded, expensive standalone boardgame. GW is just trying to surf on other companies that are making similar games. Only those other companies seem to be doing a better job.
I also agree that the funds that went into dreadfleet may have been better spent on revitalising some of the specialist games range, then again, apparently in business, one has to make new things or else customer interest wanes.

Yes make new things by all means but most companies actually listen to what the customer wants.....

For years people have been saying bring back Quest or a boxed set of Battle Fleet Gothic again.

Naw we get Dreadfleet.

It will sell out eventually, they are already on e-bay at 140 honestly if they are still in the shops anyone that buys it at double price need to see me about some investment oppertunities I have in Nigeria!

That's almost as much as they RETAILED for here in Aus.

Are the opportunities in Nigeria a good return?

Naw we will just do what we normally do at the guild.

Drug you take some of your organs in part payment and then put you back in your bed and say you had a good night out and the bleeding will stop soon.
