Well done sir. The shading/highlighting on the skin is nicely done and the worn look of the armour is excellent. Cookies inbound.

I envy your hands and painting skills. You did a terrific job with those models. I really like how you did the skin

Thanks for the comments guys!
@ Alexei I wouldn't envy my hands if I were you – one has only limited functionality / feeling after being nearly cut off, and in the other I have terrible RSI! Managed to get round those problems for painting though ;)
The skin was shamefully easy – just drybrushing with a few greens getting lighter and lighter, then adding a bit of yellow to the last green. Then sepia and green washes.

Seems the trick I suggested with the bases paid off, eh? They look great, Luther!

I do think you could've worked in a few more colors...but really, it would only enhance the awesome job you've done already...

Worked a treat mate! Loads of black wash, then just a bit of drybrushing around the edges and some static grass :)
Where would you suggest other colours? I'm kind of planning to colour code squads, so these guys are blue, the next ones will be purple etc

That's about how I do Ork Flesh. Only I add glazes of red and brown to the wash process.

Sometimes I have good ideas.. ;)
As far as other colors....just a few details to break them up a bit, nothing major. Little things like the wrapping on the handles of the weapons...making them leather, or linen...a few more bronze bits within the metal (like the pole on the combi-flamer chap). Speaking of which, I find a 50/50 mix of Devlan, and Baal Red wash, work wonders for Orky metallics...suitably dirtying, and rusting them up with a simple stroke. A follow up with a bit of Mithril on the contact surfaces, i.e. the cuttin' edge of a choppa...and you're golden.
@ Nomad, and Luther: Sepia, Brown, and Red washes on the flesh...really? Hmmm....I never tried that, might have to give it a go...

Thanks for the tips Orky, I agree your suggestions would be an improvement!

Both adding yellow to my final green for highlighting and using sepia to tint the skin were in fact tips I picked up from you Nomad! I haven't tried brown or red but I have heard tell of people using a green wash over red to deepen the colour so I'm guessing it's a similar principle? Opposites on the colour wheel and all that.

When you say glazes do you mean super thin paint rather than wash?

I thought you picked up the yellow highlights from me... ;) But I could be mistaken, I went round with Foxy about it once (he does a flatter white mix if I recall..to great effect)..
However, I can see where a red wash would deepen the green. I'm not sure as to how it would work for me, as I start with a DA Green base washed with Devlan, as a base...but I'm inclined to play around with it...
Always something new to learn...

You may well have given me the same advice at some point – you have given me a lot, and I hope to glean yet more nuggets of wisdom in days to come! But Nomad mentioned both these things in a reply to my first ever thread on Astro:

Looking back at that I see how my Ork flesh has improved – thanks to you both!
