View Full Version : There is no God above Menoth.

So after nigh twenty years of being involved, off and on, with the GW hobby; my best friend, and I, decided to branch out and try something new. We love 40K, mind...however, between his fully painted Marines (though not up to the standard he wants, and it's too daunting for him to revisit all of them), and my ever expanding gray horde of Orks (that I'm slowly working through)...we wanted to play with fully painted armies. The answer?, a smaller game, and a fresh set of rules wouldn't hurt. So we dove in feet first...based solely on models alone, we chose our forces. Jess chose Kador (he like to make soviet accent), and I the true faith of the Protectorate of Menoth.
In all honesty it's been awesome. I haven't been able to get Jess to paint in earnest for the last year, now he's revitalized and has rediscovered that portion of the hobby, pushing his painting ability. As well, it's been fun for me reaccessing my techniques (which I'll no doubt be seeking advice from you guys), as what I'm used to doing with Orks doesn't apply.
So I present the beginnings of the purging fire of the unforgiving Lawmaker Menoth!
High Exemplar Kreoss..

We haven't scored a game yet, as we've vowed to get our armies painted before fielding them...I wonder if we can hold out.

C&C welcome..

Nice work on Kreoss mate :) I would have thought with your penchant for orks you'd be fielding some Trollkin, but I'm sure your Menites will look just as good !

10-03-2011, 09:45 PM
Thanks, Alex!
Indeed...I gave the Trollkin a good long look, especially given the ale, and tartan, references in the faction. ;) However, I thought them a bit too Orky, and really wanted to branch out....so I went for the Vatican on steroids.
I really need to revisit Con's Elf thread...his whites are so smooth, and I'm a pretty heavy handed painter (using brush techniques over thinning, etc..). What's fun is this is pushing my ability, applying techniques that have worked so well for me before, aren't really doing the job now...so's I need to rethink them.

Excellent work on Kreoss! Such a nice looking Character, and a decent unit in game.

really nice looking minis orkgasm, this is for warmachine right?

Great to see The Canon of The True Law being brought to the table top in such fine looking fashion.

Many thanks, Aeth! I'm really looking forward to what you do with yours...
Adding a chip off the old cathedral...the Crusader!

I'm still thinking of adding a bit of brocade to the back of the shoulders...
I'm sticking to a slight variant in scheme, red more than the purple...using purple as more of a accent. I have to admit, I'm really digging these models/game. White, and gold being the primaries...red, silver/metal, and purple, the secondaries...I'm thinking of how this will apply to the Cinerators when I get to them. I'm still trying to get a bit more flowing with the white...

@Barny: Yep....Warmachine...

Ah, Menoth! Welcome to the True Faith!

Have to admit, I'm a bit jammy with mine. Running the Avatar of Menoth alongside two Templars and a Castigator, with two big units of Deliverers and the Harbinger of Menoth is a nasty, yet fun, combination.. Especially the Deliverers. Raining rockets indiscriminately across the board. Also, the Harbinger is a beautiful model.

21-03-2011, 06:07 PM
Agreed about the Harbinger...
No Vassal, or Choir? That sounds like a pounding list...
I'm just getting started in the game, and I've been focusing on building around pKreoss, and eSeverius. So far I have what one gets with the faction starter kit, and have added Blessing of Vengeance, a unit of Cinerators, EE Seneschal, eSeverius, Vassal, a unit of Choir, and a Vanquisher. I have on order the Avatar of Menoth, Wracks, a unit of Exemplar Errants (plus officer and standard bearer), and a Vigilant (I liked the model).
I'm thinking of designing a speedy "beat face" list around eSeverius, Revenger, and BoV, backed up by the Choir, and Vassal, and one Heavy (Avatar, Crusader, or Vanquisher if I want a bit of long range). Followed up by either the Cinerators, or the EEs, for caster protection. And if points allow, Wracks. That will give me two Arc-nodes on the field, a number of buffs, and some decent punch.
Mind, I'm still new at this, and many of my purchases are more oriented to the "cool" factor, rather than list building.

The Revenger is done...currently undergoing painting (Ork Dread aside)...the Repenter..

C&C welcome...

Looking great bud, I like the way you've used a brighter red than the usual PP scheme, it makes your models stand out.

04-04-2011, 07:40 AM
Thanks Aeth!
Indeed...I went more with a red than the PP studio purple/red...using a deeper purple to accent. I like the studio paint, but I wanted my Menites to be a bit more medieval Templar...
We do have a Templar 'Jack, and all... ;)

They look sweet man! The red is very striking, and while we're on that subject (which is one of my favourites ) can I ask what colours you used?

08-04-2011, 01:36 PM
You Infidel. The only true faith is the belief in the Dragonfather. Naught else counts.

Burn in heaven...

Nice work on the beginnings of your warband. Young Snoza has about 100 points of these buggers lying around. I'll get him to come on and give you a hand...

12-04-2011, 08:12 AM
Loving the look of your jacks'! so, what's next?

Thanks, Luther...
The Base is a "Scab Red", followed by a "Devlan" wash to darken it up a bit. "Scab" is reapplied near the raised areas as a mid. Thin washes of "Blood Red" follow, starting at the extreme edges....as I work back to the edges I let my paint get thicker. For the extreme highlights, I mix in a bit of "Bleached Bone", or "Skull White", with the "Blood Red"...
Much like the whites, a yellow, or orange, would likely provide a bit more warmth insofar as highlights on the "red" ....

@ Nomad: It would be nice to see Snoza get involved....and to hell with your "Dragon Father"....there is one true faith! And many thanks, btw!

@Avengerx: Many thanks. Not quite sure...at the moment, I'm just trying to finish off the starter kit (Kreoss, Crusader, Revenger, and Repenter). In the meantime my purchases have outpaced my painting. I now have the "Harbinger", "eSeverius", and the "High Reclaimer" insofar as Warcasters. And I've added the "Avatar of Menoth", "Blessing of Vengeance", a "Vanquisher", and a "Vigilant", as 'Jacks...a full unit of "Exemplar Errants" (plus Officer, and Standard), Cinerators, and full "Choir". My solo compliment includes, "Exemplar Errant Seneschal", "Wracks", "Covenant of Menoth", Vassal, and Vassal Mechaniks (x2)....
Now I just need to build some killer lists. Though, insofar as painting....I'm thinking, the Vassal....I like that model. Followed up by the "AoM"...I like that one more... ;)

26-04-2011, 03:30 AM
So I've been in a bit of a "work coma" of late, between sick employees, and a fair amount of business....I've been swamped. I'm still painting...though, not as often...but still...
The Repenter is finished, along with the Vassal...
And the lot at the moment...I officially have a painted army...albeit the starter kit. But it's fieldable, and fully painted..
Since this pic was taken, I have added a Guardian...

Excellent work sir, I'm looking forward to seeing the rest.

I aren't. Menoth can go and BURN in that hot, feiry place the devil calls home.

Nice work Orky, on a terrible choice. You could have done the Orks some honour with the Trollbloods but, no, you have to go and select the terrible pyros of Menoth, may the Dragon Father, or even Everblight, consume your soul...

Uncrean? ;)

*cough* INFINITY *cough*

You know you want to... ;) As to your minis: never been a fan, and I really don't like the look of them so it is a little hard for me to judge. You seem to be doing a fair good job on them though- the cloak that Kreoss is wearing seems a little patchy on the white at the bottom?

Ahh...the talk of the faithless. Menoth protects, and you will be shown the true path...or you shall burn in the righteous fury of the Lawgiver!
Really, I chose the Menites as they were so different from my Orks...the Trollbloods looked cool, but I felt that I'd be doing the same thing over again. That, and I like them...heathen..

@Honsou: I do have an interest in Infinity, the issue being getting my mates to bite on the game. WM/H held a bit more interest with them, and locally, WM/H has a pretty healthy contingent at my FLGS, followed by Malifaux, and FoW...so it seemed like a forgone conclusion.
Yeah I noticed the gloppy wash after those pics...fixed.. ;)

The Avatar of Menoth is finished!
Finally a pic of the Choir...
And a few group shots to tie it in...

The Choir, and Avatar pics were taken on my phone...not sure why they're so dark, there was full daylight. Anyhoo...hope y'all like!

I'm a huge fan of your work as you know, and these latest examples don't disappoint. The love and work that's gone into them has paid off and is right there for all to see.
I have to say the pics do let them down a bit – maybe try taking them at sunset outside?

22-09-2011, 05:37 AM
Many thanks, Luther!
And I agree, I still plan on trying again with the pics when I get an opportunity. Though, I still can't find my camera's USB cable...perhaps I may borrow the kid's SLR...

Rep from bringing such glory to the lawgiver

25-09-2011, 07:57 AM
Very nice. Just what the Dragon Father's minions love to tear apart for new constructs.
