Ok, we all agreed we'd have a 2k army painted by the next time we wanted to get together, which is already starting to approach! God how time flies ;; We've got 5 months till December, so lets get cracking!

Later today I'm going to be writing up a 2k SM list that I want to get painted for our next gathering, so show me what you've got, post your list, or a general idea of how its going to be, then start posting WIPs! We've only got 5 months!

(anyone else who wants to try and get a 2k army done is welcome to join as well!)

Aaarrgghh! (No that's not a waaagh) Since we've met, I've gotten exactly 4 Burnas painted.

Here's my list and status of paint

HQ
Warboss ChompGobb - Fully Painted
Big Mek - (have one fully painted but the one I want to use is halfway painted)

Troops
'Ard Boys - x20 fully/mostly painted to include Nob upgrade (Battlewagon needs more paint)
Trukk Boys (shoota) - 12 Table top quality to include Big Shoota and Nob upgrade (Trukk complete)
Trukk Boys (Shoota) - 12 Table top quality to include Big Shoota and Nob upgrade (Trukk needs more paint)
Nobz - 11 Some fully painted, some primed (needs lots of paint work here) (Humma fully painted)

Elites
Burnas - 9 fully painted (Battlewagon needs more paint)
Lootas - 10 (Fully painted)

Fast attack
Deffkoptas - 4 needs paint

2K points

So, it's well within the realm of possibilities to get these done at least to table top quality. BUT, I have a baby coming....maybe sooner than later. Wish me luck in both the painting and the baby.

I'm hoping this thread will give me some motovation! Lots to paint, and some fun stuff. I'm especually looking forward to the Inquisitor and his retinue. They are going to be a blast to paint. I'll be doing them one at a time, so they don't all look the same. Even if I use the same colors on some of them, I'm hoping I end up with differnt shades to keep them individual! Should be fun :-P

P.S. Cons? CK? Where's your stuff!? :-P

I might use your Eldar, Pherion! I do want to have a few games with them, though, so there aren't so many Marine vs Marine games going on.

Not sure on a 2k list yet. I do like the one I had, although I might trade the sniper scouts with something else.

Let me know what you want to do for the Eldar, and I'll make sure its painted (if i have time!) lol... You've got most all the options except harlequins... I think I have everything else in the codex LOL

Now, time to talk...

The first thing you notice is that I have exchanged some mobility for CC capability. I've also added two units which I have never used before which are the scouts.

Let's get the obvious out of the way. Yes, there is a very large unit of The Inner Circle. They aren't staying together except on paper. Here it goes...

One each of the TH + SS marines can go with the scouts or one will be attached to a tactical squad. If I'm attaching a TH + SS marine to tactical unit then Maleagant (twin lightning claws) will go with this unit. In effect the mentioned tactical squad will have 4 marines, 1 marine with a power weapon, a character, and TH + SS or twin lightning claws.

The principles above also apply to the other dual Inner Circle members. An opponent will never know which combination of guys will be in unit until I deploy. The only exception to this are the three Inner Circle with storm bolters. If facing hordes I'll put one each in the heavy weapons squads boosting them from five to six members.

The scouts are interesting because I can attach an Inner Circle member (one in each squad) to these units. The FAQ specifically states that an Inner Circle member (wolf guard) member does not effect their special rules as he is not an independant character. I now ask you to look at the inner circle and realize the combinations of scout loadouts I could bring to the enemy.

The scouts 'behind enemy lines' special rules mean I could appear on the enemies long table edge. Two units of scouts arriving this way will have to be dealt with and with my ability to arrive with the Inner Circle leading them... I would be very afraid.

The speeders have been upgraded from my DA list to include heavy flamers. I suspect that arriving from deep strike will cause some havoc on enemy armour or units cowering in cover. They will perform their mission and die when ordered.

The Heavy weapon units, The Archangels, allow me to deal with six differing targets with krak or frag with their fire-control ability. Adding a character or Inner Circle to them bolsters their wound count.

I'll have four razorbacks with twin-linked lascannon's and three rhino's. I think I'll have some blockers and/or wrecks to block line of site.

Ahhhh... the corner's tapped at the moment...

NASTY! Very Bad Captain Kellen! Now I have to start planning on how I would handle that. Hmmmm Let's see...get Ork Boyz riled up and then go Krumping? Or Get Ork Boyz riled up and then go krumping. Tough choice. I think I'll go with Ork Boyz riled up and get to KRUMPING! I'm really looking forward to this winter's get together.

This army actually looks really really tough (aside from their rainbow streak). There is a LOT of firepower in there. What worries me is the three squads of Long Fangs. These units are in Razor Backs, meaning there are no fire points. So unless you want to deploy them outside of their tank, they are going to spend a few turns doing just about nothing. And with four 48 in range weapons per unit, I think you're going to want them firing right off. That can wreak a lot of damage first turn, but if you have to disembark, you can't shoot as well.

Captain Kellen

Oh, that list is so... two days ago... what you'll be seeing soon are the 'Pherion Notes' version of this list that got tweeked...

By the way... the long fangs don't have to start the game inside the transport... so I could just set up and start shooting, leaving the razorback to move and shoot.

...and the rockets red glare, eldar/orks/IG bursting in air, shown through, through the night, that the Fallen were still there!

I was wondering if we should make the buildings/ruins that are 2+ stories vulnerable to collapsing from incoming fire like they were proper, undemolished buildings. Thoughts?

I'm torn between bringing Eldar and my Dark Angels... can I bring both (tehcnocally I don't bring Eldar, that's Pherion's department :p)? Speaking of which... Pherion, how many Swooping Hawks do you have? Wraithguard?

I have to take alook at the BRB... I'm pretty sure we can shoot at buildings but am unsure about them collapsing. I would have to make ruble craters the same size of the building to simllate the pulverisation.

So, question! Are we going to run entirely at the house or make a jump to the store again? If you want to do the house thing I can bring up another table and some terrain. Or whatever.

Captain Kellen
20-08-2010, 12:54 AM
Ahhh... I don't know about the house, meaning, it's up to you guys. We could set up two tables at the house, one in the kitchen and one in the down stairs living room pretty easy I think.

I have looked up the rules for shooting at buildings and it doesn't seem to complicated. However, we could do one of two things...

1. I could try and build some actual buildings to match my terrain. This would require you guys to brush up on the rules for moving in/out, shooting in/out, and assaulting in/out.

2. We could count my terrain as buildings and then just use the rules included in the BRB. All I would have to do then is create 'exploded' building craters.

Which corner do you want or is there a third corner I missed?

I don't have much that could level a building so it's all good to me. The whole assault into and out of is moot as I will almost always be going last anyway.

Finally! The Dark Puppies have arrived :-P Welcome to the club of, "Oh god I've got lots to paint!"

Part of the fun, all part of the fun.

Imagine four or five fully painted armies with my terrain... I think it's worthy of some pictures.

By the way gentelmen,

You guys need to decide if you want to hang at the house or travel up to the store.

I'm game with just the house. But if you guys want to goto the store there were some cool people there as well :-P

Edit: if we stay at the house, we need a 2nd table.

I can handle the second table issue. We'll put it in the downstairs livingroom. Artsoldier35 said he had some more terrain but I can work on some things for my tree's so splitting things will be easy.

I would like for Artsoldeir35 to chime in though before we call it... out of courtesy of course.

I'm reading over the 'building' rules some more before I explain them hear. I think we can do it but I'll need to build some rubble piles.

2nd table is a go then! I gots a second table. I have terrain but it's mainly single level stuff. Ie..wreckage, barriers, craters, hills. My table is a large (4x6) particle board table with two sides painted. I also have a ZUZZY mat for coverage. So let me know what you'd like me to bring down and I will.

Edit: I am calling foul on Consadine for taking the easy way out of painting an Army by asking Pherion to bring his. I have a bunch of stuff to paint so you should have to paint also. :P

Children, (See what I did there!)

I say we stay at the house unless some sort of event 40K related is happening at the store the date we set. So with that said we'll plan at being at the house.

Almost all of the shoulder pads are the pewter ones from GW. A few (the Black Templars and maybe the Ultramarines) are plastics that I got in trades. A few of them are a bit small, but with a bit of force and maybe some sandpaper, they fit fine :)

Bust for the most part.

That's how I sum up last nights gaming.

Anyway, I got down to the local store about forty minutes prior to the even kicking off. The crwod was big, 20 to 30 people, and many were playing MTG or 40K so I thought I was in good shape.

Nope. MTG has been a big hit in the local store and they have a large following so four or five regulars were there to compete in the 'draft' MTG tournement. The rest of the crowd, except afor a fellow named Jake, were also there for the MTG stuff. I own an MTG deck to have something to do other than 40K if I am trying to find a pick-up game.

Jake was a good man that played orks and like myself has a small child of 18 months. His wife was at home and he wanted to get in one game before going home late. So we got hooked up on a table and had a 2000 point game of capture and control with Orks v The Fallen. 'Drawhammer' is whe we call this mission since both player get to place only a single objective in their own deplayment zone. The pictures I took turned out like crap because i used my new camera insteadof the old on and had the settings all wrong. So bad it was like a monky was taking the pictures. Momma has reminded me there is an operators manual for the durn thing. Thanks sweetie, I love you too!

I had mobility but not stamina to face nine Kans and two dreds flanked by two meks in trucks. It was a draw. The only cool thing I managed to do was run two large mobs off the table by shooting eleven frag missles between the two mobs. In one go I hit 17 and killed 11 in one mob.

Random thoughts about my list...

- Fire control never came into play so I will still need to see how to split in the firing of a heavy weapons squad in some more games.
- My veterans (wolf guard) are ok as a unit but I don't think I have the right mix yet for keeping them together as a unit.
- The idea of two (beater) brute squads using wolfguard/battle leaders/grey hunters looked good... but failed two pinning checks. It chalk that up to a roll of the dice.
- The scouts are ok. I had them set for anti-tank and really needed anti-infantry in this game but did manage to take a few loota's with me prior to being mauled by a mob of 20-ish orks.
- The speeders equiped with multi-melta and heavy flamer are good. The problem is that they only get to do one thing then die. All over some blogs I follow this is the case. I think that three speeders, in this game would have been a mistake taking from other places point-wise. Two speeders seems fine as they are equiped.

If you guys have anything specific to ask for the corner please comment away,

I can take no credit for them, however in the future I may just cut the arrow out of their resin door and attach it to set of rhino's doors for a better fit. It's one of those things that came up after the fact.

I'll see you in the corner of battle...

Look, if I wanted no comments on my dry brushed marines I just point you in the direction of my WIP! While three out of the four of us have been on vacation, or at their homes, or don't work for a living, I have been slaving away keeping the United States of America in taxes, traveling to give local parts of the USA taxes, and just working in general.

...and now, you come begging for pictures, and battle reports, and who knows what else!

How does the weekend of January 7th (Friday) thru January 9th (Sunday) sound? My Commander and chief has nothing on the schedule and can vacate the warzone with the man-child.

...now I retreat to the corner to paint the color grey,

We're all good with this date right? I'm looking into where to use my time next year, and I might just schedual this Friday off so I can head down in reasonable time (instead of arriving super late like last time). Captain Kellen
21-12-2010, 03:35 AM
I'll have to measure the living room downstairs... we might be able to put two side by side but it will be tight if it fits.

I already have to get one 2"x4'x6' foam. If the measurements are good then I'll get a second. They can live under the house after the event. I have two saw horse for one table and folding tables might be needed for the other. We'll have to do some measurements and have some discussion.

I'm out of town till wednesday night... I'll update us then...

A folding table that is 29" x 72" to put the second board on has been bought. Thank Heather, she found one that folds in half for $20 bucks on clearence at Walmart!

@ Kellen: I have a Zuzzy mat (unpainted) that is exactly 4'x6'. In order to fit on the table it would need something underneath or a second folding table. If I can fit it in my car, I'll be bringing a second folding table that is the same as the one your wife got...I think.

Question: How tall off the ground does your table stand? The folding table I have is also 30" x 72" and stands off the floor 29" to the table top. If yours is the same then we should be able to put them together and get that third table.

Ahhh... let me get a mat from FTW. As for the table I think you are cool to leave it at home. I go on Friday at the latest to get the 4x6 2" foam from Home Depot. So the second table is covered.

Cots? I need to get one for Wrathchild unless you have three Art.

I've got a few titles if you're interested:

The Final Decision (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQBi2IIMmpQ), Sin from Genesis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2sKTDXqN6U&feature=related), Destiny (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMChEHUPkaY&feature=related), At the beginning (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08cgyxj953o&feature=related) (aptly, the beginning of the music is better than the rest, but it's good for the deployment phase of the first turns).

I also suppose Lux Aeterna (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKLpJtvzlEI) needs no presentation anymore. You can also try On the Battlefield (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSJ6afXS20M) (though you are required to do something appropriately heroic at 4:50) or Shadow of the Evanescence (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSJ6afXS20M).

If you want MOAR metal, then how 'bout Call of Cthulhu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zt_ZE_ib9Wk) from Metallica? Appropratiely ominous music for 40k!

The World of Warcraft woundtrack has a couple scores you might also use (A Call To Arms, the intro soundtrack, Stormwind), as has Pirates of the Carribean.

Artsoldier35 - 151

Consadine - 200
Wrathchild - 95
Captain Kellen - 60

and why are you not coming up to the warhammer world meet..?

There is this little issue of water and the fact I can't swim very well. Then there is this issue of 'mula'. I've got the 'mula' but Momma says 'no'. In fact I beleive she said I could go when Lucifer orders air conditioners for his dominion. Said in lay terms 'When hell freezes over!'

Sorry guys

... if I can just rig the lottery...

CK

Honsou
11-01-2011, 12:54 AM
...I question the validity of your statement. There is an error. If Lucifer orders air conditioners for his dominion, this suggests that Hell (his dominion) has become unbearably hot, even for the devil (read: lucifer). Thus, assuming that Hell is ALREADY a hot place, we must assume that the heat has in fact INCREASED. In short, Lucifer's purchase of air conditioners would indicate that hell has NOT frozen over.

So, if we extrapolate: the statement that you may go when Lucifer orders an air conditioner unit is open to the question as to when it is too hot for Lucifer; lacking scientific evidence that would support Lucifer being a temperature resistant personage beyond the normal parameters of heat for the dominion of Hell, we must conclude that air conditioning would be necessary as soon as this temperature began to increase.

Given that Hell is located, according to traditional ethos, beneath the surface of the planet, we must conclude that Hell is affected by the global warming crisis. This being so, the temperature of hell has increased in recent years which likely necessitates the purchase of air conditioning units. In short: it seems likely that the devil has already made such a purchase, and therefore you are free to travel as you wish.

That is all.

Pherion
12-01-2011, 05:44 PM
Haha, the first pics (eldar vs marines) are at the store - FTW Games.

As to house numbers. It's common to have the hundreds/thousands digit be the block number, so if there are 10 blocks on a street, the first set of houses will be 1001,1002,1003, etc. The second block will be 2001,2002,2003, and the 10th block will be 10001, 10002, 10003, etc. Pretty common.

Edit: And CK's neighborhood is pretty big. I wouldn't put it past having several hundred homes floating around in there somewhere.
