Hephmeister here again,
so Rumble or Stumble round 6 has just ended. Round 7 is an interesting looking duel between two smurf fans, so it look like it is up to the rest of us to get some non-posterboy minis build and painted ;)
And givent that everybody seems to be having a lot of fun with these challenges we might as well keep going right! So time for another free for all, so I'm challenging whomever is brave (or foolish) enough to a modelling and painting duel.......come get some ;)
Realistically I am utterly swamped till mid of June, but I am determined to get some kind of mini (big or small) do so that I can, at the very least, be utterly crushed by the other contenders!
Here are the terms (special thanks to good old Kellen for these):
1. The challenge is to paint one leader unit. For 40K this would mean a HQ figure, HQ squad member (chapter champion, incubi etc) or officer-type mini (veteran sergeant, junior officer, exarch etc, synapse creature). For WHFB you have the choice of a Lord, a Hero or a command group character (champion, music or standard bearer). The added flexibility will make it easier for everybody to find something to tie in with an excisting project, no excuses left gentlemen!
2. One picture of the model unprimed or primed is required.
3. Three 'in progress' shots are required with a short line or two explaining something you have done to the model. Highlighhting, shading, drybrush... you get the idea.
4. 1 - 4 completed shots of you model. If the thread gets too big I will move them to another with just the completed models for judging.
5. A poll will decide who 'Rumbles!' (The winner!) and who 'Stumbles!' (The losers).
6. The Duel right now and will end sunday the 30th of May. Monday, May 31st-ish, I will post the poll for voting over a seven day period, while we get started on the next round!
EDIT - deadline extended till june the 6th!
7. Heckling in the form of pictures or the written word is almost manditory. (Almost!)
8. Despite rumors to the contrary, the corner still belongs to Captain Kellen.

Back to HQs huh.... Hmmmm I don't know that I have any lying around right now... And I've got 9 jetbikes and a falcon on top of my commissions.... I might have to sit this one out. We'll see if anything else pops up.

Figuring that a leader/specialist and vehicle/warmachine rotation should provide some nice variation. Though we may indeed have to extend the HQ/officer class to include normal troop, we only need so many officers afterall ;)

That is an excellent idea, consider it done for the next round. I'm guessing about a month should be enough for that.....should be for me if I go with a 5-men squad ;)

I'm also still in, just trying to pick my mini. Thinking I'll go oldschool and finish an old Slaaneshi-themed aspiring champion from my Iron Warrior days. He's the top guy with the spike mohawk and borrowed druchii-power sword:

I hear that, it takes me tons of time to even undercoat a mini properly as I still do this by hand (yes, I am indeed insane).
Well I'm finally back to painting, after a full month of hardcore studying. Still busy as hell, but with some free evenings again here and there. So mister Mohawke is certainly going to get some attention this week. Rather looking forward to him, haven't painted purple and yellow in ages. Heck the previous mini is probable over 1,5 years old. So this one should turn out a touch better. That and I'm really looking forward to some of the creative challenges on this one, the mohawke (do I apply the split scheme here, or go for black/metallics) and power sword (keep it simple, go power a powerfield effect, etc) in particular should be interesting. Got to love a challenging mini!

I am regretting putting off pictures of the sorceress glued together until tonight. I should be home before midnight my time (roughly 9 but given that there might be delays while traveling) and have some pictures up by then. The painting has been done for a while now, just a pin is needed to get that arm to stay on the model (hopefully).
How close would I be pushing it, my fellow competitors?

Eodred
06-06-2010, 04:50 PM
Fair enough.
Sword on the outside of the blade 1:1 scab red-chaos black, scab red, blood red, blazing orange, sunburst yellow and skull white, and all apart from the first layer were extra thin. The inner section was 1:3 scab red-chaos black. Then matte varnish in the centre section and gloss varnish on the blade and the centre highlight.
And thanks

No worries, all for fun and to push eachother to new painting heights. So a few hours later isn't going to be the end of the world!
There's a decent chance my pics won't be in till the morning due to some very stormy weather all of a sudden. The light is absolutely disasterous!

Righto, finally my new and epically dodgy pictures. Not my best paintjob ever, but he was an enjoyable figure to paint nonetheless. I'm thinking I may have to expand these lads into a small Kill-Team force, I'd better get my feedback on the rules in later tonight as well.
Now the keen-eyed among you may notice the champ is a different shade compared to the original testmini on the left in the pictures. For some very odd reason and despite following my notes concerning the original colourscheme he turned out a touch darker than his predecessor. Not even sure why, but I rather like that he's a tad different, kind of fits with the expressiveness of Slaanesh. So when it comes to the full Kill-Team I will most likely keep going like this and make the purple of each CSm just slightly different from the other members!
