Ladies and Gentlemen,

Rumble or Stumble round 4 has just ended. And since everybody seems to be having a lot of fun with this we might as well keep going right! So time for another free for all, so I'm challenging whomever is brave (or foolish) enough to a modelling and painting duel.......come get some ;)


Here are the terms (special thanks to good old Kellen for these):

1. The challenge is to paint one leader unit. For 40K this would mean a HQ figure, HQ squad member (chapter champion, incubi etc) or officer-type mini (veteran sergeant, junior officer, exarch etc, synapse creature). For WHFB you have the choice of a Lord, a Hero or a command group character (champion, music or standard bearer). The added flexibility will make it easier for everybody to find something to tie in with an excisting project, no excuses left gentlemen!

2. One picture of the model unprimed or primed is required.

3. Three 'in progress' shots are required with a short line or two explaining something you have done to the model. Highlighhting, shading, drybrush... you get the idea.

4. 1 - 4 completed shots of you model. If the thread gets too big I will move them to another with just the completed models for judging.

5. A poll will decide who 'Rumbles!' (The winner!) and who 'Stumbles!' (The losers).

6. Sing up is from now until sunday, March 28th.

7. The Duel is from March 28th through April 12th. Monday April 12th I will post the poll for voting over a seven day period, while we get started on the next round!

8. Heckling in the form of pictures or the written word is almost manditory. (Almost!) :grin:

9. Despite rumors to the contrary, the corner still belongs to Captain Kellen.

yeah! also, certain results are statistically more likely than others! like, getting a 2 is a 1 in 36 chance, whereas getting a 7 is 1 in 6! how will I take that into account?

Well... I painted her scorched brown and then thought she might look better leaning forward a little... so I place my thumb and index finger againster her shoulders and pushed... the model stayed the same... but both arms came off... Pictures to come later.

I shall enter with either Erebus or Lorgar, depending on who is finshed first. If not, i might have to settle for a squad leader, with a special terminator sergeat (more will be explain in my blog later.... who can say all terminator force?)

It's really just for fun and to get some mini's painted up nicely (that quite often might not get painted at all... Shadowsun!), so I figure there should really be no problem with us late joiners :p

Here is the scorched brown coat finished... right befor eI broke her arms off trying to adjust her pose (which I apparently cannot do without breaking things).

Next, I went over the areas of vomit brown with 3 watered down coats of vomit brown, same as I do all my tau (Shadowsun is just one of the boys!).

Getting into some detail work, I filled in the eyes, because the face looked so vacant it was bothering me, painted some gold bits gold and added some sept marks with some very careful painting.

I worry the next step (the washes and the battle damage) will overpower those fine details... but I can't very well have sept markings painted over dirt, since they are placed on before the battle and then get dirt on them... not the other way around.

Actually no. When it was created it was designed to have it's center of gravity over the center of the base, it's very stable to be honest.

Alright I'm painting atm so here's a few early WIPs. From looking at the picture I can see a lot of parts that need work that just don't show up under a lamp. Also please note that I removed his sword for easy of painting so thats why the top of his hands are looking a bit manky.

I got some glue and stuck her arms back on! Yay! The next step was a bit of washing and highlighting with some devlin mud all over and some dark flesh on the scorched brown.

Here we see the base coming together nicely, a little bit of a 25-27 mix of white and chaos black on the stone, adding a drybrush of a touch more straight white to get the highlighted areas to pop. shining gold was applied to the metal bits and then the whole thing enjoyed a devlin mud wash. It's a shame the flash drowned most of this one out.

Edit: Out of curiosity... since Shadowsun must be accompanied by her drones... must I paint them for the rumble or stumble? I'm painting them anyways because I plan to use her in a 2000 point game coming up, but they are rather dull things...

(in terms of rules he'll either count as logan grimnar or captain baliel of the dark angels, so he needs to vesitle. the lighting claw arm is because the DA dude can switch between a pair of LC or bolter and sword. since i like to keep my options for mauling open should i ever get a game, best to plan ahead.... that, and chaos doesn't produce good bolter for the right arm that doesn't have all kinds of crap already attached)

It's going to be 'white'... I always start with a dark base for faces to give the deep shadows around the eyes etc...

I've never tried dark skin... I think it's very hard to get a natural tone...

yes please do... i could do with knowing which units i'm going to (theoretically in some future time) be stepping on...

edit: skin wise, i've seen it done with a few salamader armies, but it does always tend to go towards the darker end of the spectrum, typical of that you'd find in really hot places in africa.

Sure... Vomit Brown base (over Scorched Brown 1st coat for coverage), building it up with increasing amounts of Elf Flesh... And a few dots of Bleached Bone for extreme highlights...

@ Cons he sure is a looker, glad you kept the helmet on. The coloured plumes in particular add tons of extra character to this....uhm, well character.

@ Japehlio - it was certainly well worth the wait, very dramatic mini you ended up with there.

Well this model is a Greenstuffed piece that was then casted in white metal. It stands just short of 6 inches tall, I really should get a pic with a marine for scale!
