I really really like Badab Black, but tahts just preference. There are alot of people that say they use caligraphy ink, it is water soluble though sdo you should be carefull (and spray varnish your models afterwards).

Also, i dont know if you are aware, im sure i heard that the people who made/make cidetel paints have a website where you can still get the old out of run colours and inks. Im sure there is a thread on astro RE this somewhere. I could have dreamt that last bit though

Here's a link to a vid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEkMnP6p08I) where the guy shows you how to make your own washes. I haven't tried them out, but I've heard nothing but good things about 'em.
