Oh, not that kind of challenge, you say? Fine then!

Gather your knife and brush, sculpting tool and booze; come midnight (your timezone) of the 21st of November, we will submit, or have submitted, pictures of the finished miniature!

What kind of miniature? Well, I'll gladly tell you!

A Veteran of sorts. Member of a Command Squad, a chosen of Chaos, whatever. Bring on the cream of the crop!

WIP shots are not mandatory but will help keep people engaged. At the end of the day on November 21, one of us will setup a poll where our fellow Astronites will judge the entries based on conversion and painting.

Right so a champion or veteran of some sort you say, fine one Chaos Aspiring Champion coming right up! Looks like I'll be combining a few tasks in one go with this one:
- another Skyrar's Dark Wolf mini
- a testscheme for that mini-project
- and possibly the start of one of the chaosy conversion guides for the next astro mag issue

The idea with this guy (and the rest of the squad I'll eventually build) is to create a more dynamic feel for this jump trooper. Don't get me wrong, the normal Raptors are amazing minis. They are, however, quite expensive, top heavy and not quite agile looking. So, inspired by DoW stuff, these minis will have a much more agressive, in-motion stance. If this one works out alright I may even try my hand at a landing Raptor based on the artwork in the previous codex (Raptor landing, claw first, on a cadian trooper).

Well the build is done, as is the undercoating. Added a nice little skull piece to the jumppack and sorted out the base. Including some extra weight on the bottom to prevent any top heaviness issues.

Very time consuming to make this guy, but I think I'll take this approach all the way for the whole Talon (Raptor) squad. It does really add to the force. I hope to get some preliminary painting and colour testing sorted tomorrow, could turn out to be thursday evening though. Just got forced into doing an extra stats presentation for a lecture at 7 in the evening on thursday.....the glamorous life of a Research Master student

Things I'll need to sort out:
- find the right grey colour, I feel a custom mix coming up
- sort out the warband's symbol, probably just the red wolf' head with forked tongue
- what to do with the blue-ish silver areas of the colourscheme. Thinking dark boltgun metal for normal areas, bright for the bigger parts and a very thin wash of metal+a blue paint mix
- decide which section of the jumppack will be painted in which colour

Oh! Yes, I do like my Dark Angels to be, well, dark :p I'll be doing some selective shading with Badab Black before I start on featherings, and after that it'll be more Badab Black. I don't know how it'll turn out, so here's hoping!

And I have to get this all done by tomorrow evening as the chance of me going on a trip starting Friday morning is highly likely (note: this is a good thing!). So, Heph, you have the advantage time-wise ;)

Quick update, we moved the deadline ahead one day so that both of us would actually have a finished mini as well as access to a pc to upload the pics. Taking care of the details this afternoon, so pics coming tonight. It has been an interesting journey of discovery so far!

Hephesto: The conversion work on those talons is just awesome, and I think your dynamic pose certainty catches the eye. It'd be nice if you could get a better lit picture though. I'd like to see the colors correctly :-P

Consadine: I am less familiar with the parts you used, so I can't tell what is conversion and what isn't. The pose is dynamic, but I am a bit disappointed in your metallics. They feel a bit flat - particularly the silver on the halberd.

BTW: Hephesto, I might be interested in a competition. I don't have many bits floating around, but I could probably throw together a cool looking Deathwatch lieutenant or something.

Oh dear lord, this is really tough, both are excellent models.

First off: Heph. For one, I love this. It's very Chaos-y and evil and it's looks like a bererker with a jump pack, which is bonus marks from me! :grin:

Sadly, it's very busy. Two weapons, jumping off the piller-y thing, going forward, but the sheer bad-bottomness of it, evens it out. Also, the paint seems flat, but that's probably just me.

Cons: I also love this. It's very well painted and it looks the part. I love the detail in the shield/face.

But, I agree, the metal is quite flat.

So, it comes down to convering Vs Painting for me.

The Imperial in me has just died, but I'm going with Heph.

It's hard to show off the depth of the metallics when the light source is shining directly down at the model at metallic paint! Such is life...

I voted for Hephesto for a few reasons. Obviously the talons were quite cool, but I think his pose was much more thought out and more interesting than Consadines (Dynamic being the word I'm looking for?). I felt that Consadine had Heph by painting (I do like how you paint the bone on the armour) but I think Heph still has you on the conversion front. Anyway, thats my two cents and a vote. Back off to my cave now.:sigh:

I am thinking painting. However, I am thinking the terms need to include some manditory inprgress shots to explain to people some of our techniques. Not a tutorial so to speak, but a bit of mentoring. Make sense?

Castus would like to paint Calgar, I would like to paint a Terminator Chaplain, Dim wants in... I am sure we can 'Rumble or Stumble'. How is that for a name?
