View Full Version : Iron Dragon Terminator

So before I start painting my Terminator for the October challenge I had a thought do I paint it the same as my marines or do I do it as a "Bone Dragon" (this was another colour scheme I used in DoW)
It'd look very similar to a Deathwing Terminator except a lot darker and with a Cyclops visor, and bronze detailing and weaponry.
I'll stick a poll up just incase anyone wants to vote.
This is what my marines look like,

Personally I prefer some uniformity amongst my minis, but I can really see how the bone dragon thing could work out very well. If you keep some green details in there, as well as the red weapon you'd end up with a centre-piece unit. So if you're brave enough to go all bone-colour, I'd say go for it!

So, bone armor with a green shouldpad/pads and cyclops helmet? Could work.

Go for it. Try it on one mini first, then put him next to your army to see if it works. If it does do the rest of the unit, if not then it is only one mini so you don't have to worry about it. Easy to strip :D

Wasn't really gonna do green shoulders but I'll give it a go and see what happens

It was just a suggestion. I took the idea from Chaplains and Librarians that have a different armor color than the rest of their armor but keep a shoulderpad with their chapter's color(s) on it.

Dude, I love that color scheme! It looks so...futuristically grim-dark :D

So can I take it from the shift in voting not everyone is enamoured with the terminator?

26-10-2009, 12:31 PM
keep it how it is mate the armour has turned out really well!!!!
look forward to seeing it finished...

Well the deed is done, and so is the first of my "Bone Dragons" Terminators. I'm really pleased with how it came out. The pictures aren't great but you get the idea. I got round the problem of the visor by slicing a larger portion of the helmet away to increase to overall size and I think it looks a lot better for it.

Cool! How do you feel about the shoudlerpad being green? It looks good.

Seems like it could use a bit more color. Perhaps someone else will have a better idea of what to do for that.

Yeah I can live with the green, it breaks it up a little that's why I stuck with the red for the storm bolter. It also ties in with the marines to. I was thinking of doing the right knee of the marines in the same colour as the terminator just to tie them together a little more. Does the visor look better now?

27-10-2009, 03:16 PM
Well I've taken some more pics, I don't know if you can see it any better though.
Although you can see the full face visor a little better in this one.

I'm likin' your cyclops helmets - that looks great on the terminator :)
The green looks good, keeps the chapter colors going - Maybe some kind of Dragonskull icons ?

27-10-2009, 08:03 PM
I'm going to use the Salamander transfers and iconography but painted bolt gun to go with the Iron Dragon bit. But I may do it bleached bone for this chap I'll have to think about that one.

I like him, and the green. If it was me I'd do the other shoulder to match.

27-10-2009, 11:39 PM
Could do, I'll give it a whirl see what he looks like. Ah the joys of White Dwarf freebie test pieces!

28-10-2009, 12:15 AM
Good eye Aeth, looks better for both being green.

28-10-2009, 12:58 AM
it looks great rep for you i would also have maybe done the chest winged skull green aswell, but thats a maybe...

28-10-2009, 01:01 AM
Just the skull or the wings?

28-10-2009, 01:09 AM
Well these really aren't the best and I'll sort some proper shots out tomorrow but both shoulders are now green and I particularly like the shot of the front you can see the full effect of the visor. (what's the odds I'll not be able to replicate it on any of the others?)

28-10-2009, 01:13 AM
the whole lot mate scorpion green and then a wash of green should look ok but it does look great how it is the other green shoulder brings it all together ...

28-10-2009, 01:17 AM
I dunno about the green, I've seen some deathwing done like that and I was trying to avoid going down that road.

28-10-2009, 01:19 AM
that might be where i got it from:D

28-10-2009, 01:20 AM
Probably yeah,

05-11-2009, 07:59 AM
I like the original one but you clearly know what you're doing and could probably execute the bone one well.
