at the risk of sounding like a complete lunatic I'm going to share this.

I got bored this morning and decided that I'd paint my last GKT, I was too lazy to go fill my water cup and saw my bottle of 151 on my desk, and a thought popped into my head: "since I've quit drinking, I might as well put the 151 to good use." So This moring I'm using 151 proof rum to water down my paints. The preliminary results are good, but I'll have pics up when its all done.

edit:

Pros V Cons

Pros:

- Kinda obvious but my drying time has been cut in half
-Model Smells like Rum
- Greater Detail

Cons

- Model Smells like Rum

Aside from this foul atrocity to the Gods of Alcohol if you get pictures up I am sure they will forgive you ;)

The God-Emperor will strike you down for mis-using the sacred liquid of life in such a heretical manner!

I have to get a camera from a friend first.

and I quit drinking, so what was I supposed to do, let the 151 go to waste?

also word of advice, don't use it to water down paint to a wash, Just found that out the hardway.

Start drinking again. Pretty simple really... ;)

Don't have any 151 lying around, but I wonder if rubbing alcohol would do the same thing? It evaporates very quickily as well.

I imagine anything with a lower viscosity than water would have the same effects, but be careful you have to act quickly as the alcohol dries the paint out even while wet.

This is an interesting idea... do get picture up soon.

About the drying time, I personally would want to go for a longer drying time to clean up mistakes and feather a bit. Acrylics dry pretty fast as it is...

You mentioned "greater detail" in your list of Pro's. What do you mean by that? Is it just using a thinner paint that gives you more detail retention, 'cause you can get the same effect with water.

How do transfers and 151 work? :p

It's more detail because with the lower viscosity it gets into cracks and crevices more easily, and forms a better mould over the metal/plastic

Blasphemy of the highest order. But be sure to post pics when you're done!

I have quantum mechanics work to do i don't think 151 proof rum will help me accomplish that. Besides it tastes horrible and I only have a quarter bottle left, not even enough to have fun with.

That's what god invented home-stills for >.> And... what sort of thought process is that, that leads you to use alcohol for painting. Tut-tut.

A criminally insane thought process.

A criminally insane thought process.

I hereby declare you guilty, and sentence you to 25 years without right to appeal of hard labour in the custard mines. This case is hereby declared closed.

I think that's what got you sentenced in the first place! It's a daft question but what happened when you thinned it down to a wash?

Hmmm only three people here can sentence someone to the Custard mines and last time I checked in my little green book it wasn't your name.

But I am a lenient Custard God so how about I chain the two of you together and let you serve out the twenty five years together, oh and madness helps you in the mines.

Kellen take him away while I err lick this strange smelling model...Pics pics pics

well to be totally honest, the wash was my fault I put too much paint in it. It wasn't because of the paint thinner.

Grainy horrible pics tonight, hopefully better pics later this week.

Huh. That's actually pretty cool... I oughta check into that! (Using rubbing alcohol, of course. Not actual booze...)
