View Full Version : AoBR Dreadnought

Well the Dragons are increasing, just got the black reach box, and was looking for idea's to "upgrade" the dreadnought.
The floor is open for any ideas folks.

If you buy an Ironclad you get so many Dreadnought "optional bits" it's mental. Plenty of ways to upgrade it. Or you could add icons and chapter symbols, really "character it up". That's what I did with my AoBR Dread. Turned it into a fancy one for my Blood Angels. No weapon conversions though. I'll post pics if you like.

Just don't do this:

I thought it was a good idea until I painted it :(

izzat a chaos dread ? Could be "Nightlords" with those wings :)

No it's meant to be Black Dragons... I failed somewhat miserably with the dread.

Smaller wings could work. What are they made of ? Is there a way to reduce the wingspan ?

08-10-2009, 10:20 PM
Strangely they are made of ABS or similar... very difficult to cut through with my hobby knife, but it's too late now. I've moved on from my BD's.

Anyhow, back to the matter at hand. I increased the length of the barrel on the multimelta using steel wire and a bit of greenstuff to fatten it up. It looks quite well, feel free to try it as I've always felt the multimeltas on the dreadnoughts have looked 'puny' when compared to the size of the model.

Here’s what I converted mine into.

They both look good, the wings would have looked better if they were more "mech" looking. I'd like to see a photo Inquisitor because I'm hitting a block with idea's for this, being fro an FB background all this tech stuff is beyond me.

Probably just missed this, but what makes the rest of the Dragons distinct from 'normal' marines. Continuing the same kind of theme, but taking it one step further is usually the way to go with dread and vehicles. They'll fit in, but at the same time they'll be just that little more special (army centrepiece-level even).

the dragons have talons and claws.

really, the dread needs nothing, just add a nice paint and some fancy things like a lizard skull or claws in the CCW, maybe even some nice spikes, but nothing too chaosy

I wouldn't be adding anything chaosy because for once I'm turning my back on the dark lords and following the light of the emperor. I was thinking about bulking it about with some plasti-card on the carapace and arms, putting some small claws on the powerfist and replacing the melta with a heavy flamer as I have a cunning plan for that (if it works properly anyway) and doing something with the power plant.

Ah now I get it, a Black Dragon-themed dread. Well you could do something nice with their background, those with the talons are suppossed to join some special company or something, so perhaps this guy used to be one of them.

Though just bulking the dread up a notch and adding some iconography would do the trick is as good ;)

Er who are the Black Dragons?
I'm sorry if I wasn't clear before it's for my chapter the Iron Dragons.

Sorry'bout the delay - here's pics of my AOBR Dread.

The scroll bits are from the SpaceMarine command squad set, and I sculpted the BloodAngel icons. There's a few fantasy shields with dragons on em you could use to similar effect. Hope that helps :)

Here is mine. Hope it gives you some ideas.. I like the wing idea you have but it needs to be in motion to pull to pull off the winged look.

Woeps, ignore my ignorance >_<

And are some of my dreads:

You may also want to have a look at this blogspot blog - Host of Wordbearers (http://ahostofwordbearers.blogspot.com/2009/10/pictures-of-wips.html) (click blue part for link). Grimgore's style of dread is very unique and should be usable by loyalists as well...just avoid all those pointy stars ;)

They look really cool, and I lake Grimgore's dreads. I like the way he has the marine torso is coming out of the carapace. How did you extend the legs on the one on the right because I'm looking at adding some height to mine.

11-10-2009, 07:56 PM
here's an idea grab a FW valkyrie punisher cannon and use it as a dreadnought assault cannon.

11-10-2009, 08:23 PM
I like that a lot, I may use that on the next one....
What I was thinking for this one was a flamer with some sort of dragon head for the muzzle, but I'm struggling to find a head at the right size.

Chaos tank accesories sprue has a variety of bestial heads.

I used sentinel legs.
The real question is who is grimgore??? Other than the ork??

Really making a mess of my posts in this thread ;)

Should have made things a bit more clear, but if you click on the blue line in that post you'll be automatically linked to his blog and dread conversion.
