Gather around children and let me tell you a tale, a tale of woe and degredation; it all started about 2 weeks ago, it was cold and misty, a full moon casting its illumination throughout the foul fog, lighting it up like some kind of evil-mist-that-you-see-in-horror-movies when it came, and by it I mean my computer screwing up.
It would appear that I need to re-insall windows... You see LOTS of things dont work ive got a partial list that ive dont up, shudder in fear at my List of Problems:

1. Search, Help and Run gone from start menu.
2. Start/All Programs will no longer open.
3. Shortcuts missing from the start menu.
4. Control Panel, My Computer, and My Network Places are all called Folder.
5. The auto-open feature (activated via usb or cd/dvd without an autorun) doesnt open anything.
6. Internet Explorer crashes instantly when opened.
7. Winamp, DivX Player, Quicktime and Media Player all crash when they play any kind of movie/animation. I Tunes doesnt (but who wants to use it anyway?!).
8. Some start menu shortcuts missing, eg. Outlook.
9. No restore points
10. Outlook gets an error message when opening e-mails.

And just now I discovered another Problem: my computer wont detect my camera! So I cant transfer my AWSOME model pictures off it. Oh woe is me, for I dont really want to spend 5 hours installing Windows and then more time updating it... But oh well, ill have to do it sometime soon, probably over night.

But, if someone has another solution...

Sounds bad man, I am at TAFE at the moment trying to figure out Windows Server 2003. Sorry, I don\'t think I have any soloutions for your problem mate. You are going to have to find an expert.

Well, my computer isnt actually worth finding an expert to fix it (it sucks... ****... hard) and the only way I can work out to fix it is to do a Windows repair/re-install, there\'s no virusus or anything.
Ill probably do it on friday night or something.

Erased swear words. No swearing please.

Yea, its best to do it when you\'ve got time on your hands just in case you stuff it up and you have to go through the motions of setting it up again (what a ****)

Have you tried GHOSTing the hard drive? if you have I think it is a Symantec GHOST program which creats an exact image of the hard-drive or whatever you want to copy. Just say if your computer brakes-down you can upload the image on to where-ever you need it. But thats all I know.

Cool, thanks, ill have a look at that. Could be useful for backups and such depending on what it does.

You could always try the Windows backup or something I could try and find some other backup programs for ya. I\'ll keep ya posted. Also you could try and defrag your hard-drive every now and again. That just locates stray data and bunches it all together so you have more space on your hard drive.

Well, that actually brings me to a perfect example of my computers suckiness: it has a 20gb hard drive... I need 5gb free to do a defrag I think... And the problem is that I use up almost all my space. It kinda sucks when I wont to play something like WoW or Unreal Tourny 2004, they take up so much room I cant have anything else installed!

Well, you\'ve just stumped me, lol, what other games do you have that you dont use? If you don\'t use some of your games you can uninstall them and try to defrag as much as you can or something , thats as far as my knowledge goes.

Well, my situation is such that I dont have anything installed that I dont use; currently that includes Warcraft 3, TA Spring (Its Total Anhilition in 3D!!) and my sister has The Sims 2 installed and Catz 5(which I plan on uninstalling post-hast so I can install DoW or WoW). But I might be able to do a defrag after I uninstall Catz 5 and Sims 2.. We will see.

You must uninstall them straight away. They are a scourge upon the digital realm, they must be destroyed immediatly. As you can tell I HATE those games, my sis has both those games to but onlt the Sims 2 is installed. That Catz 5 took up heaps of room with all the little things you get with it.*Curses the games* Anyway, uninstall them and see how much room is left and then try and defrag.

True, true. Mabye I should try and write up a litany of hate about the Sims 2 and Catz 5, for the Emperium and the Emperor! Mabye something along the lines of:

Death to those foul followers of The Sims 2!
That the galaxy may be cleansed of their evil,
And the universe purged for the glory of the Emperium!

Etc

Dont worry, I will. And you should too! I just made a \'Litanies of Hate\' topic! Post your own litany casting down the foul heretics of The Sims 2 and Catz 5!

Just posted a little Litany there, it\'s not a really good one but I think it condemns the Sims pretty well.

oh man, what is going on in here.

My advice with computers, bin Windows and get a mac. Once you go Mac, you never look back! i love mine, even if some sites don\'t work properly on Safari, you can get Firefox, and most things work fine!
