View Full Version : Mordheim Battle Report

10-07-2009, 04:20 AM
Well, we started our summer family Mordheim campaign. We have four Warbands at the ready; Orcs and Goblins, Possessed, Undead, and Dwarfs. Then if someone really wanted to, we could build a human mercenary one as well.

So we choose our warbands. I took my heavily converted and painted Possessed, UltraAdam took the minor conversion and mostly painted Undead, and Iron Josh took unconverted and fully painted Orcs and Goblins (which belong to my Waagh).

So the two younger boys were going to fight the first battle, and then I'll take on the winner. As a special inaugarial battle, we decided to do a battle report. Since this isn't technically a WHFB battle, I decided to put it in the Other GW Games forum.

The Forces:

Iron Josh's Orc "Destroyers":

Mushin: Orc Warboss with Sword and Shield; 95
Wizkin: Orc Shaman with Ax (Oi Gerroff spell); 45
Hizgin: Orc Big Un' with two handed Weapon; 55
Hasbin: Orc Big Un' with two handed Weapon: 55
Troll: 200
Two Goblins with short Bows; 30
Total Gold Crowns: 480 Warband Rating: 95

UltraAdam's Undead "Boneheads":

Count Lumas: Vampire with Heavy Armor and Two Handed Weapon: 175
Necro-Croob: Necromancer (Spell of Doom); 35
Matthew: Dreg with Mace and Short Bow: 28
Tyler: Dreg with Mace: 23
Justin: Dreg with Mace: 23
Flesheaters: 4 Ghouls; 160
GroundCrawlers; 5 Zombies; 75
Gold Crowns; 519 (Ooops, someone needs some math help!). Warband Rating: 98

Apparently, while UltraAdam added wrong, the warband ratings were very similar, so not a HUGE deal. A tad dissappointing, but such things happen in the spur of the moment. It won't happen again.

The Scenario:

We rolled Scenario 6: A Chance Encounter.
This is a really fun one. Instead of the standard board edges, the Warbands set up on opposing table corners and got some randomly detrimined pieces of Wyrdstone. UltraAdam had 3 pieces of Wyrdstone, and Iron Josh had 2.

Set Up:

Iron Josh's Destroyers

UltraAdam's Boneheads

Iron Josh rolled and got the first turn.

Turn 1- O&G:
Recovery Phase;
Troll passes his stupidity test.
One of the Goblins fails his anamosity test, but gets the 'I'll show You' result. So he passed his iniative check and hopped the wall.
The troll leads the way over the bridge.
Mushin (Warboss) follows, and is in turned followed by Wizkin (Shaman) and Big Un's.
The gobbos run to the side.
Close Combat:

Turn 1- Undead;
Recovery: None
Movement; UltraAdam tries to make zombies run, which they can't do. Also gets chastized for trying to move the models with the illegal measurements of front of base to back of base. Thus getting extra movement. Is called a "Big Stupid Cheater". Stopped to do laundry to let tempers cool.
Shooting: None
Close Combat: None

Turn 2- O&G;
Troll passes another stupidity test, always having the Warboss within 6 inches to use his leadership is helpful.
No anamosity.
Goblin who is out in front runs forward.
Other goblin fails his iniative test to climb the wall.
Troll crosses the bridge.
Mushin (Warboss) almost crosses the bridge, but doesn't quite make it with his run.
Wizkin (Shaman) and the Big Un's run off to the side, an interesting tactical gamble.

Turn 2- Undead;
Recovery; None
Ghouls and Count Lumas (Vampire) run forward.
Shooting: None
Close Combat: None

10-07-2009, 04:57 AM
Turn 3- O&G
Troll is STILL not stupid!
No anamosaty (or however it is spelled)
Troll declares charge on a ghoul.
Mushin (Warboss) walks to the edge of the bridge.
Forward Goblin walks forward to try to shoot.
Other goblin finally makes his iniative test to jump the wall!
Wizkin and Big Un's get on the ford.
Wizkin casts 'Oi Gerroff' on Count Lumas (Vampire) and knocks him back an inch, but does no damage.
Close Combat;
Troll hits and wounds the ghoul, but only knocks him down.

Turn 3- Undead
Recovery; None
Count Lumas (Vampire), Tyler & Justin (Dregs) and the other three ghouls declare charges on the troll.
Everyone else moves forward.
Matthew aims at the forward goblin, but is out of range.
Close Combat;
Dregs: No hits.
Ghouls; 1 hit, no wounds.
Trolls; 2 hits on Count Lumas (Vampire), no wounds.
Count Lumas (Vampire); 1 hit, 1 wound, no regeneration on troll (2 wounds remaining).

Turn 4; O&G
Troll in close combat, no stupidity check.
No animosity.
Mushin (warboss) declares charge on Count Lumas (vampire), fails, moves regular movement towards Vampire.
Wizkin (Shaman) moves forward.
Big Un's run forward.
Back goblin, yet again fails an iniative test to climb the second wall. Spiderman he ain't.
Close Combat;
Dregs; 2 hits, 1 wound, no regeneration save (1 wound remaining on troll).
Ghouls: 2 hits, 1 wounds, last save fails, and he gets a stunned result.
Count Lumas delivers another blow putting Troll out of action.

Turn 4- Undead;
Recovery; None.
Count Lumas (Vampire), Tyler & Justin (Dregs) and the four ghouls declare charges on Mushin (warboss)
Others move forward.
Matthew tries to hit the goblin, but requires a 7 to hit...which is very difficult to do on a d6.
Close Combat:
Dregs: 2 hits, 1 wound, he makes his shield save.
Ghouls; 4 hits, 3 wounds, 2 shield saves. Last fails, and ghoul gets stunned result.
Count Lumas: Killing blow on Warboss.

Turn 5- O&G;
Recovery; The Destroyers roll BOX CARS for the Rout Test and run away screaming!

10-07-2009, 05:12 AM
Campaign Phase:

Well, the Destroyers were, well, Destroyed. But now was the fun bit. The Campaign Phase!

The Destroyers;
Troll rolled a 6 and he's fine!
Unfortunitly, Mushin's luck stayed the same. After rolling Box Cars for the Rout Test, he rolled Snake Eyes for his Serious Injuries roll. So he died. As in dead. As in the Destroyers have no more leader.
Four dice for exploration results in a 9, with TRIPLE ONES! So two pieces of wyrdstone. Which means the Orcs found a tavern. Apparently they decided to drown thier sorrows at thier leaders death. They failed thier leadership and drank all the alcoholic booty. So they only got 4 gold crowns for the swag.
Advancement: The only one to get enough experience to get anything was Wizkin, the Shaman, and he got a skill. Iron Josh choose the Fearsome skill, so he now causes fear!
Purchase: Cashing in all the wyrdstone (1 from the scenario, and two from exploration) for 60 Gold, that brought thier total up to 84. Then taking the fifteen gold out for feeding the troll. He then bought four Goblins with Bows. So his bank is 9 Gold.

The Bone Heads:
Injuries: None.
With an amazing 6 dice to explore, they got a 20, which is another 4 pieces of wyrdstone. Also got Double Fives, which was an Overturned Cart. From which he got another 9 gold.
Count Lumas rolled a 9 and then a six on his advancement, and got another point of leadership.
With a whopping 8 pieces of wyrdstone (4 from scenario-three were his and one taken from the dead body of Mushin, and 4 from exploration), he decided to cash in 3 stones for 55 gold. Adding this to the 9 from the cart, he bought two short bows for the other two dregs, and a dire wolf. Which brings him up to the maximum warband size of 15.

So tommorrow night, The Bone Heads will be facing off against the Possessed. Don't even think that you'll be getting a battle report for that. Maybe a campaign update. If you're good...

Really enjoyable report LAZ.

I have no idea how Mordheim works but it seems really fun. Maybe I'll pick it up one of these days...

10-07-2009, 04:07 PM
do so fridge... you wont regret it!

10-07-2009, 04:52 PM
Yeah, its the only GW that you can play an army for less then $35. Which is why they don't really support it...

10-07-2009, 04:54 PM
yeah i know :( i mean all the rules are downloadable free. but no new models its all in the realms of the converto.. but saying that, the old empire militia box set, and skaven night runners box set have served me well for my warbands

10-07-2009, 04:55 PM
Exactly, and if you already have a Orcs and Goblins army, or Vampire Counts army, you can just translate the models effortlessly.

10-07-2009, 04:58 PM
wish it had more love from GW i think they would be suprised how well it would seell if they introduced it again... started doing things for it

10-07-2009, 04:59 PM
Especially if they did non-cardboard ruins. And made them modular like the 40K ones.

10-07-2009, 05:00 PM
drool...... they could do with some fantasy ruins anyway, being honest not all fantasy battles are fought over nice shiny new buildings

10-07-2009, 06:04 PM
Wow that was a grand read, made me even more hungry to give it a try for myself, I'm looking forward to converting and building my own warband (already have a nice idea of the type of group I want to have). I should really download all the rules so I know a bit more though. (Laz and Mart, expect some questions on warbands and campaigns when I start collecting).

Also Have some well earned rep Laz
