So, for the mercenary contest, I've dcided to paint someone standing on a base made of crystals... the only problem is... they arn't the round ones, their those spike cube once, and I have no idea how to make those look like crystal. Any help on how to paint them? Does anyone know a trick to making them look like that icy blue cave crystal that I dream of?

You mean like these:

Its all in the wrist, and washes, and dry brushing...

The wrist, Tallarn? Or more the washes and dry brushes?

start with the flat white, then start adding thin layers of blue building up as you go. Start with a mix of 5:1 white and blue (on big area), then build to 4:1 (smaller area in the big area) and so on until you get to 1:1 white and blue in a very small area like a highlight... gonna take time but I think you will like the result. As long as you dont used purple you will be fine.

Uh oh... I've been doing this backwards... I started from black then went to blue then to white... I'll post up a picture of the backwards one once it's done... then I'll try one the way you sujested and hope it's better :D

I think part of my problem is... being made out of greenstuff, they arn't perfectly smooth and so the dry brushing is leaving ridges where my fingerprints were...

Dont make them out of GS. I found this a while back: Making Crystals (http://www.astronomican.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=263&Itemid=98)

The complaint some of my friend have raised is that they are too dark so they don't 'glow' like crystals (of course... they do sparkle for some reason... and with no metalic paint it really is a mystery... but they still down't have that deep inner source of light like the top ones). Any ideas?

Ok this is just a guess but you could paint the crystal with some color then coat it with a lot of pva glue <.<
